CSA/IS Questions Galore!

I hope no-one minds but I have copied and pasted my questions from another thread on here. I have also added a few more on in the hope that someone can answer them for me.

Really? So if at the moment the CSA payments is greater than the amount of IS to which someone is entitled to, do you get the whole lot of the CSA payments or just do they reduce it at all to match the IS payments?

As I know at my sons school if I am in receipt of IS he can have free travel to school, a free hot meal, holidays at a discount and school uniform at a discount - would this apply if in receipt of CSA instead?

    To be honest I can't answer your questions, but as the politician that I am not, I honestly cannot see this or any goverment promoting a blatant culture of not getting onto some career market, stopping at home and being Mum not included in that option. I would imagine there will be clauses and it will be upto the individual circumstance as to decide whether to go along the IS / Benefits route or maintainance, I just cannot see a scheme where the PWC claims a large amount of IS and benefits etc, as that would open the gateway for us all to claim IS, supporting 'lavish' lifestyles while unable to survive oneself is what causes some NRPs to pack in work, so the whole social setup becomes unstable. As there is an option to opt away from the CSA,I'm sure there is a catch to using them in the 1st place soon.

    I think it's going to be very interesting when or if this comes into force.

    ;) i could stay at home and be a baby machine forever and not have to get out of bed...and before anyone get's on their high horse it was a joke!

    There must be a catch to this, there is no way a pwc will be able to keep all csa payments and all benefits. No point in working if this was the case and that's just wrong.

    It does seem rather bizarre.

    Can anyone tell me if you claim the greater CSA payments, can you still claim housing and council tax benefit?

    Would your child/ren still be entitled to free school meals etc and could you get free prescriptions, as I remember when I was one IS the prescriptions that you take to the chemist had a box to tick if you were claiming IS, would you still tick that box in order to be legible for the free prescriptions? Or are you not entitled to the above if getting CSA?

    lol :rotfl: I strongly suspect a baby machine and her bed part company frequently, 3 kids all under the age of 5 in the house phew it would be more relaxing in the work place:D

    as for the keeping all of your csa payments while on benefits i'm split on this because csa is paid for the child so really it should ALL be passed on to the PWC for the child as that is what that money is for .... but your point is absolutely spot on and correct. In some cases receiving benefit payments and all your csa payments could give you more income than you would get working so why would you do that.

    I've come to a conclusion, the answer is .... there is no answer to any of it :j the phrase 'cant do right for doing wrong' was probably invented with child support and access in mind :j

    if this was the case then my friend will be rolling in it! Unfortunately she is on IS atm, but actively seeking employment so much so she has applied for 50 jobs in the past 7 weeks! Her very recently departed oh would be liable for almost £700 pcm in maintenance when CSA sort their act out - so if she got all this on top of IS, HB, CTC etc and free meals etc i bet she would be on a 'salary' of much more than most who work 40 plus hrs pw!

    the things you mention are to some extent means tested ie free prescriptions, HB, CTB etc are available if you either get certian level of tax credits or your income falls below a certian level

    I cant answer, but common sense would say that the income would be taken into account to assess if the person would qualify.. if 1 pwc got £20 per month and another got £1000 per month there HAS to be some limit on who gets what rather thana blanket decision- so i assume this would bedecided on income based facts.

    If you got £1000 a month in csa payments then would you expect to have free meals and prescriptions? i think not.... bit on the other hand if you only got £20 per month more than on IS i expect you would!

    Doesnt answer your question i am afraid..but surely thats got to be the train of thought on all this CAB may help, or IS ppl
