Income Support and CSA payments

I am currently on IS but today I received my very first payment from the CSA. It was for 7 weeks money so includes arrears. I had received a letter from them saying that my ex was due to pay money to me but I didn't expect to actually receive any money due to the fact that I was on IS.

Do CSA payments affect IS?
Do I need to notify IS of the fact that my ex is now paying the CSA?

  • You wil get to keep £20 of you csa payments. I get £38 off the csa and my income support is dropped by £20. If you dont tell them they will find out eventually and you will have to pay it all back my advice is to ring them say your csa payments have now been sorted and tell them how much you will be getting a week. In 2010 you will be able to keep all your csa payments.
  • It doesn't affect your housing or council tax benefit though. However I would still tell them.

I get £56 a week off CSA and am allowed to keep £20, I had to inform IS and they reduce my IS by £36. If your weekly payments are over £20 let them know but if you've had 7 weeks arrears paid to you, you will owe them, it does sort out eventually.
  • I am claiming JSA (stamp being paid only) and got a letter from CSA saying as on a means tested benefit will be getting CSA each month. If I get a job will these payments then stop? can anyone answer this.thanks.

All csa payments AND all benefits? Surely if the csa payments exceed the amount of benefit then you will be taken off benefits? Is this what you mean?

If your CSA payments exceed your Income support/benefit payment then yes at the moment you will be taken off benefit.

Really? So if at the moment the CSA payments is greater than the amount of IS to which someone is entitled to, do you get the whole lot of the CSA payments or just do they reduce it at all to match the IS payments?

Also what will happen in 2010 - if someone who should be able to claim IS but is getting CSA payments instead as it is the greater figure - in 2010 will they be able to claim the basic IS payment as well as their greater CSA payment? Or still just get the CSA payments?

Am I right in thinking that if you get only the greater CSA payments you can still claim Housing benefit and Council tax benefit or not?

Sorry for all of the questions! Hope someone is able to answer them all :)
