Yes they both are benefits although whilst on JSA you have to sign on and prove that you are applying for jobs - on IS you don't

From now if your youngest child is 12 and you are a lone parent then you will be moved from IS to JSA.

Next year the age is going to be lowered to 7. So if your youngest child is 7 then you can't sit on IS, you have to be on JSA

Ok I know this is a bit of a general question which has no doubt been answered a million times but does child maintenance affect any income related benefits (I dont mean just tax credits but any means related things)??
I dont receive any and dont really intend on persuing it but have always wondered.....

No, unless the NRP earns a very good wage and it can paid instead of the benefit.

mind you, I'm not so sure the PWC should get benefits upto the child is 19, without any attempt to get back to work.

Think 15-16 is a reasonable age of the child for the PWC to try and go back to work.

Oh if that was directed at me (I havent read all the previous posts) then I should have said that I do work and I have a mortgage so I dont get JSA or housing benefit or anything like that but I do sometimes get a little hacked off that my sons dad has done nothing ever for him. In fact he has never even seen him .....

Make sure your ex is paying his dues. Sounds like you have your head screwed on, I hope you are making sure the NRP is giving to you, financially what you deserve.

if you are on benefits, I believe the first £20 is paid to you, the rest goes to helping the secretary of state pay for MP's expenses

Ok so I am new to all this but what does NRP stand for? Is it non responsible parent??
I know I look at things slightly the wrong way round but he has never ever been interested in my son and I know its wrong but I kind of equate him giving us money to him having some sort of say in my sons life and trust me I am not ready for that! Saying that I have always said that he is welcome in my sons life (providing he isnt going to waltz in and out when it suits him) and as soon as my son is ready and asking questions that I will happily talk to him about our situation.
I try to do things the right way and have always worked and never claimed any benefits but I couldnt afford to live these days without them so for the time being I will claim my working tax, family tax and childcare costs as I know it wont be for ever
