Child support payments are not included as income for HB claims. Not sure if same applies to CTB.

Prescriptions can be claimed if entitled to claim CTC only - ie work less than 16 hours/not work at all. Guess free school meals use same criteria. CSA is not included in tax credit claims.

after pondering this thread...and thinking of a friend who is unfortunately on IS atm... what on earth happens if the NRP doesnt pay up one month for whatever reason? surely the NRP is stuffed if the CSA is only income? or would it be a condition that the CSA collected the payments and passed it on? As i understand it the PWC can decide if CSA should collect or if they get it directly from NRP? or is that not the case when on IS?

From Oct 08 CM payments were fully disregarded for HB and CTB, and disregard for I.S. went up to £20pw.
Not sure but I think that if CM payments are more than £20pw then the I.S. claim is nilled but still live so if the ex doesn't pay then they can get I.S. to quickly alter the amounts.
Of course if there is a voluntary agreement then the amount can be set at whatever level is agreed.
From 2010 (proposed only ATM) the CM will be fully disregarded, but I.S. will be stopped for lone parents with children under 7 anyway so they may not stay on I.S. anyway.
    Nothing to see here

Thank you for this. So if the CM is only £20 more than IS does that mean that if you get the CM instead you won't get free presecriptions and school meals. Just think that if the CM is only £20 mor than IS then the exptra £20 can get swallowed up so quickly with school meals for 2 kids etc that you would in fact be less well off than someone getting £20 less on IS.

So what happens in 2010 when your child hits 7 to someone getting IS? What if there is no father names on the birth certificate so that CM cannot be got?

So you are saying if I get Child Support instead of IS then I can still get Housing benefit?

Can you still claim CTC when you don't work at all and are in receipt of Child Support instead of IS as it's the greater amount? If you can clam CTC - can you still claim HB abd CTB?

The child will still be entitled to CS, fathers name on the BC has nothing to do with it .

Come 2010 if your child is 7 then you will be put onto JSA - I had forgotton about this so sorry about that.

And DUTR is correct (pass the smelling salts), the father's name doesn't need to be on the birth cert to get CS although they may question paternity.

What age will your child be in 2010? Is there a likelihood that you could be back at work? This would mean you would get your wage, CS (all of it), WTC/CTC and depending on your income - nonwithstanding CS - you may be entitled to HB and CTB

It's the Mum's responsibility to tell the DWP how much CS she is getting and once they realise it is more than IS, the claim will be stopped for IS
