CSA/IS Questions Galore!

So if they are getting the CSA payments and not the IS will they still be able to get JSA?
I think I re-call someone saying that they couldn't get JSA as the CSA payments was classed as their income?
So, if the case if that both children are over 7 in 2010 but you get the CSA payment anyway, can you still get HB and CTB?
Argh I am tying myself up in knots I think!0 -
Or once your children are over 7 do they not allow you to claim HB or CTB?0

ANYONE can apply to claim HB/CTB - it depends on your income if you get it.
If you are on a means tested benefit then you would automatically be entitled to it.
From 2010 you are allowed to keep ALL your CSA PLUS all your benefits (which will be JSA if the kids are over 7) However, there is nothing cemented to say that you can keep your CSA plus your JSA. Although the CSA are proposing to do this, there is no ruling passed by Goverment to allow this - they could say no and have CSA classed as income.
If you are receipt of JSA (a means tested benefit) then you will get your HB plus CTB
You really are tying yourself up in knots!!! Why not concentrate on the here and now becasue there is nothing to say that these 2010 proposals will defo go ahead.0 -

Now I'm confused, CS is a contribution to the upbringing of the child, it is right and just that when the child is of an age, folk should be back on the market to seek employment (no if's, and's, but's or suppose) , CS would still be recieved and with the new salary coming in, we can all look forward to putting an end to child poverty (does child poverty really exist in thr UK?)0 -

Just not sure that for right now I can claim HB and CTB seeing as though my children are over and I am only in receipt of CSA payment now as my only income.0 -

CS payments are not classed as income for HB/CTB purposes (this also changed in Oct 2008) but you will still need to apply to the council - it won't be automatic.
As a lone parent (potentially) now, you may also be entitled to CTC. Nothing lost in phoning the Tax Credit folk and asking them as well0 -

Your childrens ages are nothing to do with anything here. HB/CTB is awarded on income - nothing more0 -
Look at the CSA Options website all CSA Clients IS and Private are treated the same now since last Nov and can choose not to go through the CSA if you wish.0
