sorry - i see that you are already sorting getting direct payment. I doubt any loan/grant is available unless she went for some form of crisis loan, but i dont think this covers housing arrears when she has already had the money.. did she pay a deposit?? If so can you not agree to take the deposit and £10 pw therefore arrears are paid quickly ? i appreciate it is dodgy ground as you then have bo deposit from her but i cant think of any other way

so she has used the rent to pay for other things when in fact it should have gone to you

contact the council and they will pay you direct as clearly she cant manage money and then if you want to keep her as a tenant you will have to accept a vastly reduced amount from her direct for the amount that she owes from her benefits will prpb be pitance

If you don't want to evict her and the Housing Association are now paying you directly I would try to come to an arrangement with the tenant so that she pays you a little bit of what she owes you every week, at least this way you will get the debt down slowly.

I wonder what would happen if you put the rent up and extra £50 pcm would the HA pay it?

The proper way to sort this, now it has got this far, is to agree a repayment schedule and warn her action will be taken if she defaults on it! Or seek an eviction order now.

I'm sure that would be fraud!

I can't believe people are suggesting the tax payer could help her out - she has had her rent paid once FGS! That is more than a lot of struggling families are getting at the moment!

It would not be fraud to raise the rent.

It would if raising the rent in anyway let her off the arrears.

Depends what the going rate is for the area atm, the OP could be charging his tennant full whack already, so if he stuck another £50 on to it then the tenant would have to find this all by themself rather than the council.

Yes, I know, and I'm sure diable didn't mean that at all - they just thought it would be helpful to put up the rent even though the tenant cannot afford the arrears already!

Do you have anything valuable to add to this thread, or are you just trolling?
