Cars with a disabled tax disc

Don't get me started on the disabled tax disc issue.
The fact is, that it is unfair to people who become disabled later in life and don't qualify to get one (ie over 65's).
Also those disabled later in life cannot take advantage of the toll concessions on roads and bridges where a disabled tax disc must be on display. also a number of local authorities now only let people park on council car parks for free if they have a disabled blue badge AND display a disabled tax disc. Thesystem is so unfair against older people - it is discrimination on the grounds of age.
Also, having had jealous nosey neighbours' wondering how I managed to afford a car, the disabled tax disc was a dead giveaway that I claim Disability Living Allowance, hence a report was made about me and I ended up getting interviewed becaise of their jealousy.
In this day and age there should be some other way that doesn't automatically point out to jealous and or nosey types that one claims DLA High Mobility - yes it is like a label.
Sorry for the rant.

Surely your blue badge brings with you all the same issues? If you don't like it, pay for your tax disc, and to buy a brand new car! People over 65 have other advantages, like the fact they were 65 before they became disabled! It's FAR more normal to be disabled by the time you're 65, I really wish I'd managed another 50 years before I became disabled! Seeing as you have a disabled tax disc and are complaining, why are you upset that older people can't have one?!0 -
I am just so grateful to have the free car tax and we love our blue badge as it has made life so much easier.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
And still, no-one has told me why they are ashamed of being disabled.
Of course it isn't a desirable situation, but why should you be so concerned to hide it? It is part of who you are, just as much as being white or black, blonde or a redhead.
If someone meets you, then finds out you have a disability, that shouldn't change the way they deal with you.
Lets bring disability out of the closet.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Hmmmm, now which would I choose - son severely disabled at 6 hours old, and able to get tax disc with disabled written on it, or
son not disabled until over 65, and not having disabled written on it, but having 65 years of full, active run of the mill life.
Which should I choose??
Totally agree with easy - my son is disabled - cant hide it and DONT want to. He is (disabled). So what??0 -
Ohh, forgot to add - we have put stickers on the car to suggest to other drivers that they allow sufficient room to open his car door wide. I suppose thats drawing attention to whole disabled thing too?!0

I have a blue badge and am so grateful for it. I don't care what anybody else knows or thinks, I use mine and have disabled stickers on my car so as people know. To be fair I would love to be able to have a free car and I am sure my time will come. Nothing like looking a gift horse in the mouth.I used to be me !! what happened

I have a disabled tax disc, and am so glad when I get perks because of it. And the thing is, it doesn't look disabled. It looks like an ordinary tax disc. Doesn't have sticks or anything.

We have wheelchair accessible vehicle for our son.Ramp comes out of the back. There is a notice asking people not to park within 10 feet to allow access.I cant believe how many people ignore this. Many times I have had to move to get him in.This only works if there is someone else to stay with him while i do so!!!!longhotbath wrote: »Ohh, forgot to add - we have put stickers on the car to suggest to other drivers that they allow sufficient room to open his car door wide.
