Cars with a disabled tax disc
Comments
-
Cars supplied by motability are taxed automatically, we just receive a printed tax disc in the post each year, so the whole issue of renewing tax at the post office doesn't apply.
I would still like the OP to answer my earlier question tho', why are you ashamed of being disabled?I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

TBH I think its a little bit petty. We had disabled tax for my son for about 9 years and dont think anyones looked at the tax disc and I wouldnt care if they did, theres a lot more things to worry about:rolleyes:.
With the scheme you get a new car every 3/5 years, free tax ,insurance, servicing and repairs which when added up would cost a lot more per month than the HR mobility allowance.Cant see what the problem is really.
As someone said if you are not happy then just pay for it all yourself. Am thinking of a new one:beer:0 -
Slightly O/T, but French supermarket car parks have a sign in their disabled spaces that translates as 'if you want my space, then have my disability'.0

Where I live, only cars displaying a disabled tax disc can park free in the council car parks and at the shopping centre. If you just have a blue badge (and use a car with a PLG tax disc) you have to pay full price to park, so it is worthwhile having the disabled tax disc.
Also a number of toll/tunnel/bridge operators (such as the Humber Bridge, Tyne Tunnel, Dartford tunnel etc) only give concessions to vehicles with disabled tax discs.

I dont think its a real issue never has been for me0

thanks for your reply bargainGalore but my issues is i am 21 and everytime im drving people will always stop me and ask me was wrong with you why u gt a dsiable tax disc which just becomes annoying.
I am disabled but I look like anyother person
Strangely enough, I look human too - except at 4am before meds take effect, but that's another story...
You are more likely to be questioned because you are 21 and driving a practically brand new car than anything else. So it's ageism rather than disability discrimination.
Unless you want to buy a car outright, MOT it, insure it, maintain it and buy the tax at full rate, I suggest you invest in a thicker skin. I'd offer mine, but I kind of need it to deal with older people demanding my seat on the bus.
It's a bit £$%^ having to carry these things around that 'label' you as different, but as it saves you money and you have them for your benefit, you'll have to grow accustomed to them.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Ooh this is an interesting thread. I have my own car with free disabled tax disc and hadnt even noticed it had DISABLED on it. I am just so chuffed I dont have to pay £170 a year! I had a motability car before that from when I was 18 and no-one ever commented on my new car that I could afford eventhough I didnt work. Also, who looks at tax discs? Madness.
I think that at the age of 18 hobbling around with a walking stick, parking in disabled spaces and struggling to get out of the car is much more embarrassing. Now I enquire if there is a disabled concession wherever I go, and have found that I get free swimming at most council run pools, and thanks to this thread I now know that I get a discount at Dartford tunnel! There's gotta be some perks to being in lots of pain.0 -

I cant see it a problem to be honest
There are several issues associated with this practise that i find questionable.
Firstly it labels when both society and politically there have been moves to drop labelling people and secondly it advertises that a disabled person is using/ owning that particular vehicle. Many disabled people may feel particularly vulnerable and for this reason may not wish to openly advertise this fact especially if they live alone.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Oh for GOODNESS SAKEFirstly it labels when both society and politically there have been moves to drop labelling people
What are we supposed to be soooo ashamed of ?? So, I'm disabled. If we are scared of people knowing that, then we are as guilty of discrimination as anyone else isand secondly it advertises that a disabled person is using/ owning that particular vehicle. Many disabled people may feel particularly vulnerable and for this reason may not wish to openly advertise this fact especially if they live alone.
You know whenever I park and put up my blue badge, I have identified that my car is used by a disabled person. It isn't that hard for someone to either follow me home, or even get my address from DVLA (it should be difficult, but it isn't).
The tax disc is marked to stop fraud.
I really do think, if the use of the word disabled in small print on a tax disk is worrying you, that you don't have enough to worry about.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.
