Does anyone know if the cheapo noodles are any less/more nutricious then actual egg noodles (without the sachet of salty sauce I mean). I'm always stuck for ideas for the kids at lunchtime but could easily knock up a quick lunch with the noodles and some veg.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0

Tin of processed peas, onion, chillis (fresh or dried, or at a push pickled) olives. Just bung em all in the pan at the same time as the noodles. Failing that, just chuck in whatever you fancy. My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!0

You don't have to use the sachet of crappy powder that's in with them, just use them as you would any other noodle or even as substitute spaghetti if you're low!0

If you dont use the sachet, sprinkle it on some potato wedges after a bit of oil & bung em in the oven. Waste not want not.My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!0

I think they are OK too, in past times of abject poverty I have been known to make Noodle butties, nowadays as a quick snack I just boil them for the 3 minutes or so and add (instead) some of the 10 calorie soup mix or if feeling flush one of the Ainslie Harriet Soup mixes and make a Cuppa Stew. (Got loads on Bogof months ago BTW)
For dead cheap meals I would recommend the local chinese supermarket, dried Mush in various guises, dried onion, loads of sauces, cheap rice and noodles, chicken paws (spelling is correct BTW) the veg is good too and adds interest to a stir fry.The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
What a great thread! My children love these cheap noodles, the cheaper the better as far as they're concerned. I have served them instead of potatoes or rice without the pack of flavouring, but have never thought about turning them into quick cheap meals, so thanks to everyone, especially with the hols and four hungry children looming! I also like the idea of adding the powder to potato wedges, usually I just sprinkly with paprika, pepper and a bit of salt and oil, so this would make a change.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Hi All,
Thought I might pick your brains on ideas to liven up Asda cheap 9p noodles, not sure if this has been asked on a previous post - I did do a forum search before posting and found nothing...
We don't eat these alot, but now and again they are cheap and easy as a quick snack that I tend to keep in my store cupboard. We don't personally like the taste of the sachets that they come with and I tend to just crumble in part of a chicken stock cube for chicken ones etc, but I was wondering if anyone has other ideas that they use to make them a little more of a cheap and cheerful snack rather than just a cheap one !
Cheers

Hi Lulubells,
We do have an older thread on this that should give you some ideas so I'll merge your post into it to keep all the suggestions together.
Thanks for searching.I was only able to find the thread because I knew it was there.

They are a filler, same as potatoes - chuck them in stir-fries and soups. And ignore the "OMG must be carp only 8p" brigade, probably as good for you as prawns on ciabatta - can 20% of the world's population have got it so wrong (especially as they much less obese than the "educated" west).0
