So.....I'm officially a newbie. I have used this site for a while but am only now starting to post. I had my lightbulb moment on 29/4/09 when our debts stood at £42048.69. The debt is a combined total of my debts and OH's debts. Its alot better than it was as I am guessing that 7 months ago it stood at about £50000.

It's obviously alot of debt but at the moment i'm not panicing...I just want it gone as life would be soooo much better without it:beer:. Half of the debt is on loans/car, the other half is on cc's. Working it out we could be debt free by 2012 but I am aiming for much sooner than this.

We have a terrible habit of wasting our money on things. I suppose this is a common thing and its not just us. So clamping down now. I've made up a lovely spreadsheet (i'm a geek like that) and at the moment I am just loving seeing the figure come down. By the end of this month I will be under £40k!! :T

Anyway I won't waffle on too much as I will be back ALL the time updating this. It will keep me focused.

Sorry if it bores people but thanks for all the threads on here...they really are motivating!

Thanks Rags!! im going to do my best!!

So today my day is going to be a mixture of watching my 1 year old and having a good clear out. Just put a few items on ebay whilst she napped and am hoping to put some more on after. Just rubbish really that we dont need/use!!

My motivation for being debt free is baby number 2! the sooner we pay off debt the more comfortable i will be with having another little one. We would both love one now but i just the debt to be smaller or gone first.

Hoping to sit down and get my head around some of the challenges on here and see if i can do any. Its all a bit new to me at the moment.

Its great that you have a specific goal to help motivate you on your debt free journey.

Maybe it will be useful if you write down everything you spend over the next couple of months, just so you can account for every pound that is spent. It's amazing how it can all disappear. Perhaps just getting both of you a small pocket notebook would be useful.

Anyway, keep posting, it's great to read a new fresh diary. If you stay focused, you'll soon be at your goal.

    Another day!!
well its only 10.30am and already i have been a busy bee.
Signing up to greenmet seems to be going well...sold 2 books since last night!!:j So aswell as getting money i'm also saving pennies!! Got to post them today now. Also have 2 things that will def sell on ebay so again im a :j bunny.

As for debts...so far i have paid off another £27.83 today.

A bit about me....as i said our debts are split across loans and cc's. I am hoping one if not 2 of the loans will be gone by August!! savings us £160 a month.

Credit cards....we have 7!!! ouch. fell into the balance transfer trap and then spent on them again. I feel slightly responsible as before i arrived in his life OH had no debt apart from one £3000 loan. But alot has been spent on house refurbishment so i guess we have something to show for it. The other loans are the car, and my student debt.

    So my plan of action!!..

    1) to tackle 2 credit cards simulateously. One is a lloyds card with £950, the other a virgin with £3570 on it.

    2) tackle 2 loans....One with lloyds £950 and one with black horse £1200.

I aim to do this at the very latest by xmas!!

Alongside this i have worked out that our total debt would also have fallen to around £29694.87 from £42048.69 based on minimum payments. Meaning we would have paid off a whooping £12353.82 off debts this year!!

This is my goal anyway. I am going to go at full force and fingers crossed we wil get there.

Anyway, time to go get the little monster out of bed. Will be paying some more debt off later tonight so will be back with news later.

    Thanks

Yey someone who is going to keep an eye on my diary!! thats a fab motivator!! It will make me wanna pay things off now just so i can tell people!!

Just put my little one down for her afternoon nap so im going to check the money front again. I have been to the PO and posted the books i have sold on greenmet so thats crossed off my list. May have a rummage through my wardrobe and sell some clothes that are not too big for me - I have lost 20lbs in 5 weeks!! :T I have a lovely black dress which i dont wanna get rid of but have to face facts...its too big and hopefully will never be able to fit me again :rotfl:.

Off to read other diaries now for some extra motivation. Already i feel this site is going to be a lifesaver in terms of tackling the debt.
