Ok, I've been through this before after not receiving an item, so here's how it works.

First of all, well done for using Paypal, which completely protects you. Open a dispute for that payment, and they will ask you to describe what has happened. They will then contact the seller for his side of the story. If he doesn't respond in time, they will return your money to you.

He'd have to go down a hell of a route to prove he didn't send an empty box, and since it's recorded, the weight will prove whether he did or not. If the weight is heavier than the box, you'll have to take it up with Royal Mail, who have nicked DVDs from Play.com from me in the past, so it's not unheard of.

But yeah, Paypal favours the buyer, so file that dispute ASAP!

Log in to Paypal, and go to the Resolution Centre, from which you can click 'Dispute a Transaction'. The rest is self explanatory.
Post factual comments please. The OP cannot take this up with Royal Mail the sender has to.

Exactly, if the sent weight was the same as the received weight an empty box was sent. If the sent weight was higher, it's been knicked/removed.
The original listing needs posting to verify it wasn't a sc4m.

I would still be worried though that the there isn't enough difference in weight to be obvious, how much does an iphone weigh?

A couple of hundred grammes could easily be packaging one way or another.

Also, if seller says they used the old orange sticker method for recorded then all they will have is the orange bit and a receipt to show how much they paid, no weight would be required to be shown.

It's obviously a scam. Who in their right mind would send a £280 item with only £39 worth of cover if it got lost

    Absolutely, never give up.

Just having a quick re read you haven't mentioned contacting the seller yet, that should always be the first thing to do. Don't just email them but phone them as well, check them out, get their history, open a file and store screen grabs of everything to do with this sale.

If you want to pm me the item number I'll see if there is anything obvious I can spot.

It sounds to me like it's a case of Royal Mail thieving again, if his feedback is that high. Once I ordered about 4 DVDs, and they all arrived except my box set. I reckon the postie took the biggest box and figured I wouldn't notice since I'd ordered so many other things that day.

100% feedback is not all you need tor esearch, whay has he sold does th ephone auction page look the same as the other aucitons he had finishing at the same time. This oculd easily be a hijack as especially with the 21 day hold scammers prefer to hijack an existing account rather than try and sell with no feedback of their own.

Keep phoning the seller, keep the times reasonable as you don't want to be done for harrassment, but try earlyish in the morning before people go to work, or mid day if they happen to pop home or evenings etc.

If you read the OP the box has arrived but empty. Unless OP can confirm that the item was opened and resealed before delivery how do you imagine the RM magicked the phone out of an otherwise packed box?

You obviously have issue with RM, and many of us do including myself, but never let those issues cloud your ability to see other options.
