I had a nightmare opening the current acc with free £100 offer from Barclays- due to some of their staff's incompetence, but persevered, got a really nice lady who bent over bacwards to help me, so i have now got my £100!

Took 2 months, and a bit of leg work, but all worth it.

Thanks to Martin and the MSE's who advertised the offer!

I got my £100 over 3 weeks ago.

I closed the account about 10 days ago.

Finally today my login no longer works, so looks like it's gone.

Told them unimpressed with being given a Mickey Mouse electron card. If I'd been given a Visa delta, I would have kept it.

Lloyds TSB gave me a proper Visa debit card, so that will be my second account now.

No bribe from them though, sigh.

Still waiting for £100 for opening accout it should have been paid in 14 days ago have phoned 3 times already and get a different reason why it has not been paid every time, last time they said that the 28 days did not incude the bank holidays or weekends any excuse.
Have made a formal complaint but still have no money.
Barclays internet banking is not working again this morning what a terrible firm.

  • Got my £100 yesterday! Thanks MSE.

Was paid about 20 days later than the 28 day period. Did phone them once as had very straightforward experience of opening the account and paying in and was starting to worry that hadn't qualified! They said some people would be receiving their £100 up to a month late but everyone should be paid by the end of May - completely inundated! Bit annoying I know but then it is money for nothing!
  • 2nd £1000 credited 8.3.06, no sign of £100.

I emailed Barclays to complain Fri 21st April - £100 credited Monday 24th April. I have yet to receive a reply to my email.

Never received internet user ID and was sent an Electron card. Will not be using account again.

    Thanks for the free cash!

    100 pounds received, yay!

    18 Jan: Applied online
03 Feb: Visited branch for ID check & account opened
    07 Feb: Deposited GBP1001.00
    03 Apr: Deposited GBP1010.00
28 Apr: Received GBP100 from Barclays

Note that I didn't manage to make a payment of 1000 in March, I thought this would be a problem. Mind you, their definition of a 'month' in the T&Cs wasn't clear (calendar month or statement-cycle month). My two statements received since opening the account both show credits >1000.00 as their cycle is not aligned to calendar months.

Turned out not to be a problem as the bonus was paid the last working day before "28 days since second credit of at least 1000.00".

I received the £100 without any of the hassles experienced by others. It just appeared on my statement just like they said on the tin. However I then started using the account which turned out to be a bad choice.

My intention was to keep the account with a small balance just for internet and phone purchases. However, the Visa Electron card is not universally accepted, causing some embarassing moments. Yesterday I accidentally went overdrawn due to unfortunate timing of transactions and they stung me for £30. The terms actually say £30 per day overdrawn BEWARE.

I called customer services and explained my predicament. I got some bimbo with a broken record approach. After a lengthy procedure to set up an overdraft facility she told me no as I hadnt passed the 'internal scoring' as the account had not been open for long enough. I would have to wait six months!! (Evidently I passed the scoring to get the account in the first place). I then asked for the £30 to be refunded. After consultation with somone off stage she said would refund £15 as 'goodwill' etc. I said no, at which point she put me through to another department to register a complaint. Finally got to discuss the situation with an intelligent person. She agreed to refund the charge. I'll wait and see what happens.

Well, another thing to add to the thread. Just received two letters (one for each of our accounts) which entitle us to a free copy each of antivirus, courtesy of barclays. They reckon it's worth £28 each and is 2 years worth. I know there are free products out there, So in theory another £50 worth to go with the £200 we had already. Thanks Barclays!

Fantastic. My boss was only telling me about this the day, as he and his wife both did this and are expecting £200 shortly. Would love to know how much this has cost Barclays overall...
