I don't really why people need to opt out. They're not giving out anyone's personal details.

I've tried twice and no text back yet. I want to opt out because I never consented to my number being used this way.

I've tried 3 times also and haven't received any texts back - looks like there might be a pattern here - I wonder if they're deliberately making it hard for you to opt-out?

I am thinking this site looks like a bit of a scam really.
I searched for myself using just my name and home town and it then says @we think we've found the person you're searching for' but asks fir more information (address, company name, etc) then, with just the street name added it asks me to register and then obviously pay £1 to access information, without even knowing if its texting the right person!
So can't really see how this service is of use to anyone.
  • I'm slightly nervous now as I've yet to receive the elusive text....!
  • Add my name to the list of people who are currently awaiting for this supposed text with a code to remove their details.

Tried twice over the past hour and received nothing at all yet.

I just wanted to point out that the original thread is misleading, and in my opinion seriously so.

They do not text my phone number to anyone who is looking for me, which you state above, what they actually do is text ME to tell me someone is looking for me and to give me that person's details. Thus leaving me to decide whether to contact that person back.

Unless you think 118 800's website is being dishonest in what it states about their service, it seems to me that the person who wrote this original article misread or misunderstood the service that is being offered, and has created some panic and concern by misrepresenting the service offered by 118 800, albeit unintentionally I am sure.

It would be great (and I think in all honestly, fair) if you were able to correct the misinformation you sent out about this service, in the next weekly tips email for example.

It seems to ME that someone has misREAD the information given as it clearly states:

"This means if people want to contact you via it they can (they pay £1) it won't give out your number but will send a text to you with that persons details."

I don't mean to have a go as I hate it when forum members do so as I'm sure we are all here to help but you HAVE to read the original post properly to avoid mistakes like this.

I have twice submitted my Mobile No and they have not texted me with the opt-out code

But to opt out you have to tell them what your number is - If they didn't know your number before then you've just made them aware of it!

Even with their assurances, do you trust them with it???

Surely better to wait and see if you get any unwanted calls from them and only then opt-out rather than help them harvest even more numbers

I've just tried to get a text to opt out and nothing. Maybe we have all overloaded the system and it can't cope!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Looks like we crashed the site.
I blame the Labour and Euro scum, passing legislation that has taken away our civil liberties.

And the internet - facebook have tried to sell personal data to marketing companies so that they can access which product is right for which person.

If I had the time and the knowledge, I would take these companies to the Euro court for infringement of my human rights!
