....does the price you get for everyday stuff justify the effort? I see so many things on there with no bids, that it makes me feel like I couldn't be bothered to post stuff in the first place.
Yes.
As long as you check out prices first, and be sensible about postage (including packing costs) then you can certainly cover your expenditure on "mistakes".
If you aren't sure, just browse for a while first, before taking the plunge. Or check out some of us who Ebay regularly (let me know by PM if you want my Ebay name).
We've all got those items that didn't make any money, but we got rid of them - that's half the point of doing it! If it doesn't sell then it goes to a charity shop, but I also sort stuff into "likely to sell on Ebay" and "Charity shop sellable" before things even get listed (just so no-one thinks I just give my rubbish stuff!). The way I see it is that if someone is daft enough to pay for my rubbish then I will try to sell it!
However, I don't devote a lot of time to it any more - it has to fit in with me..... I have a heap of stuff to be listed, but it will go on gradually.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Oooh I buy and sell loads on eBay. Mostly, I buy Topshop clothes for me, as I know my size and fit. I quite often find things in store but can't justify the expense so hunt it out on eBay
e.g. the Topshop Harper jeans that are out now - wanted them in store but didn't want to pay £40, bought on eBay for £20 = happy camper.
I sell a lot on eBay too, again, mostly Topshop (find it holds its value quite well, esp if I've bought cheap from eBay in the first place!), also a lot of OH's designer stuff. I pick up a lot of my clothes from charity shops/boot sales so if I find they don't fit, they go on eBay too. Generally I make a little bit of money though of course have made some losses, I like it though, it's a good way of recycling what I don't want and getting a new wardrobe for free every season
As far as bargains go, I've had tonnes. OH only wears a specific style of Levi jeans (fussy g*t) which are about £80 a pair, bought a couple of pairs from the Levi shop on 20% day, then hunted on eBay and have found him 2 pairs since at less than £30 a pair
I once got some Love From Australia boots from the charity shop for £3, sadly they didn't fit meSo eBayed and sold for about £40. Ooh and I once picked up a Mandarina Duck bag new & tagged for £1.50, planned to give it to my little sis not knowing the make, she didn't like it so I googled, then eBayed for £60  I'm always amazed at the things people give away!
Wow, talked enough now - can you tell I love eBay?Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j0 -
Thanks floss and gymfiend .......so is everything people sell pretty well in perfect condition unless they state obvious faults...but I'm thinking wear and tear wise?
Say, if you sold jeans, there would be no sign of wear on the back of the lower hem, where they can scuff a bit for example?0 -
Bronnie - I've sold jeans with substationally ripped and worn hemlines...some people actually prefer them this way. Just take a photo of the offending part and be totally honest and you shouldn't go far wrong.
As for standard high street stuff just pop it all in a parcel and get it weighed at the PO for an accurate postage price first and then list as a "job lot" on Ebay.0 -
I'm just a hobby seller on eBay and mostly sell clothes, shoes and accessories. I find named stuff does well as people search for specific things. For e.g., searches like 'Topshop denim jeans' tend to be more common than just 'denim jeans'. I also always put a range of sizes in my description, so if it's a 12 but fits loosely, I'd put 12/14 as the size.
Another tip is to give a detailed, well-written description. I really hate seeing listings with one photo and 'good condition' in the description. I want to see the thing I'm potentially buying and know what it's like - does it fit big or small? Soft fabric? Well worn but not damaged? Like new? Give as much information as you can.
I also cross sell my items sometimes... last month I sold some jeans, a floral top and some wooden platform heels. In the description for my jeans I put 'would look gorgeous for summer with a loose floral top and some chunky wooden heels.' Sold all three to one buyer!0 -
:DI buy and sell on Ebay and find the decent stuff does well eg Per Una, Topshop, River Island etc - I sell a lot of DS1 and DS2's clothes trhat are in good condition and just start them at 99p as this is free, most of it goes and it all goes towards my holidays:D I recently bought a floral dress from NEXT that was still in the shop for less than half the price - I love a bargain and spend many a happy hour scrolling through:rolleyes:0

I've just listed all of the stuff I'd cleared out that was a bit too good to jst give away. So the named brand clothes and ball dresses. Also the suits that DH and I had. If they don't sell then I will give them to the charity shop after I have relisted them once more on ebay and once on the staff intranet at work.
It's stuff that I don't want and is cluttering up my house but I may as well try to make something from it before I just ditch it.
At the moment I only have one item with a bid on it and it is going for 99p. I've listed most things for 99p with £3 postage. I figured that the postage cost might at least cover my time for listing it all.
I might never do it again but what I actually hope is that I don't ever again have a huge lot to list at once. I think I could stand to list one item each evening maybe!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
I only ever sell on ebay, when i have bought stuff it usually is not very good. I never sell anything i would not use myself. Recently bought a pair of river island trousers, bloomin stain on the front and the pocket at the back was starting to give and tare. Straight to the bin thry went, vowed never too buy off ebay again. I realise there are some reputable sellers but i never seem to get them!!
Goanmad, wow you are an inspiration, was the ebay bourne out of a love for vintage clothes??? I really love them, but size wise i find it hard, everything i want is just too small. Read a fab book recently about vintage clothes and how to spot if something is good quality or not, it was a real eyeopener!!!

sharron, did you claim your money back from the seller? I hope so!
I bought a pair of French connection jeans on there for about £20 inc P&P. They were advertised as bootlegs so I got them. When they arrived they were skinny jeans. So skinny in fact that I can't even get my calf into them. I don't think I've got massive calfs BTW! I repeatedly tried to contact the seller but she never responded so in the end I went via paypal. I sent them a message saying if she wanted them back then she had to pay return postage too. I ended up with all of my money back and the jeans which made me feel bad because I'm sure she could have sold them again if she relisted them correctly.
I have had some utter carp from there like jeans that stank even through the wrapping. Stuff that's ripped etc. I've also had some gems. Mainly household stuff.
Those of you with make up, consider ebaying it. I bought some virgin vie one step face base on there a while back. I got 5 slightly used for £36ish. That's quite a saving for me and she's made money on something that she would have been holding onto otherwise!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
No kaz, they were only 99p, so i didn't bother!! May have been differnet if i had paid £20 for them tho!! What bothered me is that she didn't state the stain in her listing, i suppose i always judge people by my standards, i sort of think 'well i wouldn't sell anything stained or ripped, so no one else would'. Ages ago i too had something that absoloutly stank of smoke, not nice. Never had a gem from ebay, but one can hope!! Been listing today and had trouble uploading clothes, something to do with categorys, gave up after an hour arghhhh!!
Good tip about the make- up, i'm clearing mine at the weekend so will be on the lookout for ebay stuff.
