    Kenny:
    try adding things in.
Eg. A handful of raisins in your cereal. (nice trust me!) or a dollop of low fat mayo on your sandwich.
Just small things will add more calories!

Hey you, don't go getting deflated! You've made some fabulous changes to your diet, and that deserves a bit pat on the back.

OK, so you've decided your body is a temple, and that temple needs to be well looked after.

I would definitely recommend that before you go to the gym that you have a snack. You're expecting your body to perform, but you haven't optimised it's chances by being on zero fuel. It's like Jensen Button starting the F1 without any fuel in his tank! Were you aware that your metabolism raises significantly after exercising, and remains raised for up to 24 hours after? There was a TV programme 2wks ago where the person's basal rate was 19g burn rate p/hr and it was raised to about 40g 24 hours after fast walking on a treadmill.

I am like you, I like to eat a high protein diet. I find carbs bloat me, and make me hang onto the weight. If I keep my carbs low and complex, then I lose weight. I buy promax bars, which are expensive unless you search around for websites selling them cheaper (usually in bulk), but i get them for about £1 a bar, as opposed to £2+ elsewhere. They have over 20g of protein, 200 cals in a bar, and are low GI, low fat. I keep one in my bag, in the car, etc. so that I always have a handy snack, that is going to be within my diet's needs.

50g of mixed nuts (unsalted) are over 300 cals. You could have a bag in the car, at your desk, etc., and snack on them throughout the day. I find them very moreish, so be careful you don't overdo it on them! I couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing weight, when I started having them, but my handful was a bit too generous. My favourites are the mixed, roasted nuts with salt & pepper from the Co-op, they are gorgeous.

You could introduce some complex carbs to your evening meal, with wholegrain rice, wholewheat pasta. You're not keen on yogurts, but a couple of extra pieces of fruit at lunch would be healthy, and about another 150 cals. I don't find jacket potatoes, or new potatoes with the skins on makes me crave more food later, as I found other high carb foods can do.

If it's high in refined starch or sugar I avoid it.

I have the same kind of breakfast as you, and about the same portion size too. This morning I had plain yogurt with strawberries, banana & blueberries, as I just felt like something refreshing, but then I sometimes struggle to eat breakfast, and it was at about 10.30am!

If you want some ideas of the kind of diet my Bf is following, PM me, and I'll give you some ideas of what he's done/doing, and the daily menu plan he has. He's much more regimented with his, but I suppose his results have been quite spectacular as a result!

Hi guys - was wondering if I could join the thread.

Am going to Orlando with OH and kids at end of August and really want too loose some weight before then.

Ideally I have 2 1/2 stone to loose but am realistic to know that I can't do this before August now. Have been "trying" to loose weight since I booked the hols back in October but have realised that I can't think myself thin anymore!!!

I did WW several years ago (before kid #3 came along) and mangaged to lose 2stone but I am now heavier than I have EVER been. I don't really have the time (or inclination) to go back to a slimming class and want to try and do it on my own.

I am currently 9 days into the 30day challenge on Wii Active (new game) but so far have managed to gain 1lb (I am trying to convince myself it's muscle!)

Any help / guidance would be appreciated.
  • hi, thought i would chime in,

what kinda foods you eating? etc.

all depends on what your eating, when (and trust me im no expert on this one lol)

and what kinda of activity your doing along side it,

the wii is fun, but find with many "contraptions" its gimmicky at best...... this of course is based on my own personal experience.

In terms of food I am going to keep a diary on here if that's ok from now on. In terms of exercise I do nothing apart from wii active.
  • are you in the position to take the kids walks etc? do you have a family pet you could take with you?

if your not wanting to do swimming etc, or the dreaded gym, its just little things like walking and food changes, plenty of water and youll see some differences.

Back on the straight and narrow I think. Bought myself loads of fruit for snacks last night and I've been for my second run this week (admittedly not up to Missy's or Raph's distances usually can manage between 2 and 4 miles in a lunchtime). Going to do some Pilates tonight - partially for the health benefits minimal though they may be and partially for the opportunity to review the dvd on dooyoo!
Added Dav1na's work out dvds to my lovefilm list ages ago and keep hoping they'll turn up soon.

Hiya Bananasplit, good to see you 'over here' :D Hello other new peeps too, good luck with your weight losses!

Kenny if you're interested in learning more about how to properly fuel your body for exercise, there is a great book called 'Sports Nutrition' by Anita Bean. I got it from the library originally, but ended up buying the updated version to keep. It's very detailed and I still refer to it a lot.

Vixstar, sounds like a good start to the week! You've reminded me about the Pilates, I did my Pilates for Abs DVD for the first time in ages last week and I was shocked how hard I found it compared to before :o

Been for an outdoor swim today which was heavenly in the sunshine - 30 x 50m lengths for 1500m. I need BB's swimming icon thingy :p

Very flying visit today peeps - a shocklingly brief but BIG welcome to more newbies - stick around and throw yourself in with us daily for best support.
Aitch - the wii seems a brilliant place to start having fun getting fitter --quite a few on this forum had a big phase of that earlier in the year and it sounded fun and helped a number get more mobile generally.

Must go - middle of painting walls.

Oh, but before I do - Beanie - thanks for expo - I should have been able to work it out; I'm always doing the same sort of typo. Really sorry re your dilemma and understand why you can't face using it.
Granny, thanks for chart offer :T.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
