Welcome to shopaholic  and Hezza
No idea about the Harcombe diet but I think we all knowthat what ever you do it comes down to eat less and move more. If only knowing it was the same as doing it.
Thanks Granny but that's just what the Harcombe diet says NOT to do!! The analogy is that you wouldn't put less petrol in your car and expect it to go further so why do that to your body??
The book claims that restrictive diets (low cal, low fat, low carb etc) only aggravate certain medical conditions that make you crave forbidden foods more, so when the diet is over and you go back to 'normal' eating you regain all the weight lost plus some.
The 5-day kick start cuts out all processed food, sugar and caffeine so that your body goes back to normal, the conditions causing the food cravings die off, and you can start eating healthily again from day 6 in a food-combining sort of way (e.g. no carbs & fats in the same meal) with no calorie counting or limits on portion sizes etc. (I think I got that right). It even recommends bacon & eggs for breakfast!! All the reviews I've read claim success in 99% of cases so I thought I'd give it a go as nothing else is working for me.
I've tried WW in the past and had some success but then they closed my local meeting down and there wasn't another convenient one I could go to. Since finishing my temp contract a couple of weeks ago I have been out exercising most days (swimming, jogging, gym) so I am upping my exercise levels too. Don't know when my next contract is going to come along so I'm making the most of the free time.
Starting my weigh-in tomorrow (Thursday) so keeping everything crossed for the next 5 days!!£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

WW you can do online, have never attended a meeting but started on Jan 4th 2007, loads of help/info/chat rooms about WW online, books from the car boot sale or the local library, not necessary to attend a meeting to get the benefits:D0

Welcome shopahaolic and Hezza!
Today is a total denial of all work that I need to do and instead I'm going to go shopping day...lol. I have arranged a 9 day school placement and due to weight loss and not needing to have replaced those sort of clothes I now have none. Im going to try primark which I am very scared about - their clothes never fitted me right when I tried them on (even in bigger sizes where they were too big, just didnt look right) but my shape is different now so hey its worth a try. If not back to tesco's, peacocks etc. Could do with a couple of going out bits as well, may try matalan tomorrow.
On topic (kind of lol) I'm starving so going to go have some cereal, shower, walk my dog and then get going. Good luck with weigh in tonight guys x0 -
Hi peeps,
Just reporting a -1lb loss for me! I'm well chuffed about this as I had a crappy week last week what with TOTM, being gym-lazy, and eating shed-loads of rubbish......
I'm back on it this week though and have changed my weigh-in days to Wednesday to match up with the updates on here!
Good luck and happy de-wobbling gang!
N xx0 -
An ok 0.6lb loss for me please this week! which considering it's TOTM I shall grab with 2 hands and hug tightly :rotfl:
Also I did ask last week if anyone could point me in the direction of some quick, cheap, healthy and tasty (cold) pasta dishes for when I have away games with netball?
I'm useless with cooking and any help is greatly appreciated0 -
Pasta, firstly if you're doing sauce then use wholemeal pasta as it tastes the same and is much lower in cals. I like roasting a load of tomatoes and blitzing those for a really rich sauce, or you could throw in a few teaspoons of pesto and some pinenuts, or roast off a load of onions, peppers and mushrooms in a bit of bbq marinaide. If using cream use elmlea instead as its a lot lower in fat than real cream and you can't tell the difference. I like doing cous cous salads too, some rocket, peppers, apple and two dessert spoons of cous cous (there are loads of premade ones in lovely flavours), with a bit of ham, cooked chicken or quorn, gives me loads of energy for next to no calories.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

oooh thanks Dinah. Do they taste good cold? Only anything I take can't be hot or by the time I eat it it'll be horrible :rotfl:0

Welcome to our newbies Shopaholic and Hezza,
Shopaholic - I think if you give us an idea of what plans you've tried to do before, and what it was that stopped you sticking with them it might help. I follow a calorie counting way of eating. That means nothing is out of bounds to eat, but I try to keep foods low fat/sugar and low carb, merely from a healthy eating point of view, but also that I know from experience that these foods act as 'triggers' in my body, to make me want to eat more. Curbing the cravings is often the biggest battle. As soon as you tell yourself foods are 'out of bounds', you can be sure to want to eat them! I also try to keep as active as I can, or work activity into my day, even if it means taking the washing straight upstairs, rather than leaving it on the stair until I next go up.
Hazza - I'm not familiar with the plan you're beginning tomorrow, but it does sound similar to either a detox plan, or the Food Doctor diet. That again is about being careful about food combining, keeping portion sizes limited, eating certain food types at different times of the day, etc. Will be really interesting to see how you get on. I've had a look at the reviews online and they all seem very positive, although I couldn't find many that were very long-term, so the initial weightloss bonanza seemed to be the biggest thing that came out, but that happens with any new way of eating. The detox sounds similar to the kind of thing that Go Lower does. It does make perfect sense to avoid processed foods, cut down on sugar, refined carbs, and high fats, so it will be really good to hear how that is different from that basic concept. I already have only decaf everything, don't have diet foods per se, as they seem to have added sweeteners in place of fat, and try to eat natural, wholewheat, or homegrown foods. Do let us know how you get along, and give us a taste of what it is you are/aren't allowed to eat, etc. How does the questionnaire present itself, and how does that help you? I'm intollerant to several foods, so not sure how a questionnaire can filter those out, rather than taking tests or simple trial and error. We've all done so many diets on here, that we'll all be interested to hear about your new one. Good luck, and I hope you don't feel too groggy over the weekend... that'll depend upon how much caffeine you've been used to I suspect. It takes me 3 days to get the carb/sugar symptoms out of my system, but avoiding them does stop them happening.
Reporting a STS this week, because I totally forgot to weigh in this morning, so any weigh in now wouldn't be of any use now I've eaten and had several drinks.
dmv - I hope you had a successful shopping trip. I had the same problem when I went for an interview a few weeks back. I tried on several pairs of trousers, and skirts and they looked ridiculous on me. I have a pair of trousers a friend gave me that are an optomistic size, shall we say, but they were just so snug, I reckon you could tell what I'd eaten that morning! I'm a good 7lb off of wearing those. In the end I ended up in my good old faithful pair of black trousers (yes, the ones I wore to the party in July - again)! The problem with being on a 'journey' of losing weight, is that you're reluctant to invest in anything before you've reached your destination.
Well done to the losers this week! :j:j:jOne day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
