Settlements are not just put on the table like that.

their barrister asked what figure it would take to settle this. we had no idea (having no previous experience). we suggested £20k but our barrister thot that was too high and might lead them to take their chance in court. he suggested £15k. they came in with an opener of £5k but our barrister played hard ball and warned them if they didnt pay £15k then the tribunal was def going ahead. they caved in on friday - they musnt have been too confident :cool:0 -

Sure, I'm happy to jump in. I still think you had no case and that's evidenced by the fact your lawyers suggested a settlement. They obviously didn't think you had more than a 50/50 chance.
The company itself would have taken the line that it was worth throwing money at your wife to go away. Companies do it all the time. I work for a major law firm and we regularly advise clients to settle such disputes because it isn't worth their time and hassle fighting, even if we think they are in the right.
Congrats on the settlement, though. It's probably the best outcome for everyone. You get a sense that you won, even if you didn't. And the company gets rid of a problem (and a problem employee) very cheaply.

I asked you time & time again how much you wanted, which was the only thing important in this thread & the only important thing to both barristers.
