Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the CLEANER scan
I couldn't see an option for Cleaner scan so just ran 'Cleaner' ??? It said it found a huge number of files to be deleted, although it hadn't deleted them yet. It seems to have deleted my cookies anyway as I just had to log in to get back on here.
Anyway I clicked on Analyze to see what that was, then couldn't get back to the list of files to be deleted, but I was worried in case it was important stuff so came out without telling it to delete them. Some of them looked like some of my spreadsheets, Word docs, and I even saw moneysavingexpert.com in the list!
Is there an option to just scan without collecting them for deletion? Daren't go on to the next stage until I'm sure I'm not doing anything drastic!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

ccleaner is completely safe to use. It WONT delete anything it shouldnt. Theyre only temp files etc that dont matter:idea:0

Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)
It found 287 errors and has repaired 19 free, now wants me to register (i.e. pay) to fix the rest. Don't know how much it is yet.
Would Malwarebytes obviate the need to pay for CCleaner to do it?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Yep I ran that first, same as the box you illustrate. Then you said to run Registry scan, so I clicked on latest version and it downloaded that, then I ran it and it came up with a load of errors.
Damn it won't let me paste a screenshot of what it found, but it's like this...
PC Tools
Registry Mechanic
Scan Results
All sections (268)
Then it lists individual sections like Software locations, Registry integrity, Windows fonts etc., and the ones it has errors in are...
Add/Remove programs (68)
File Extensions (7)
Temp Files/Shortcuts (18)
Custom Controls (66)
Deep Scan (109)I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Aarrgghhh... I don't belieeeeve it. I did everything instructed, and was running Malwarebytes, when it did exactly the same as the other night and crashed after about an hour and a half . To my knowledge it hadn't found anything by then, so goodness knows why it keeps crashing.
Think I'll run the quick scan, as it can't seem to cope with the full one .I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
