Do you think that means I'm all sorted? Honestly the improvement is dramatic. Hope it isn't a blip :T.
Oh I did get a pop-up from SuperAntiSpyware saying there was an update available, but when I clicked okay to install it, there was nothing there in the box that should have listed what updates there were. Not going to worry about that though, just enjoying the responsiveness of this and hoping it lasts!
maybe ive missed something but what have you done to get it so responsive0 -
I'm not sure tbh, just followed the instructions from AlienRik and the others who were helping me sort it out. I'm assuming there was something in there that cleaned it all out of whatever it was suffering from.
Just realised I still can't access my Outlook Express though, but that's probably because I typed in the wrong things when I tried to reinstate it. It's saying it can't find the host SMTP or the host POP3. I can still get my emails via Orange Webmail, but if anyone could suggest who I should ring or what I should do to get OE sorted I'd be very grateful.

I may be wrong but it might be the settings which you need to reapply0

That's what caused the problem I think! It asked me to enter the settings, and I hadn't a clue what it meant or where to find them
.

pop and smtp servers are usually in the format of
pop.(your ISP).co.uk
or similar....you should be able to get the correct servers somewhere in your account area of orange's website........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I've been fiddling about in Tools (ooer missus lol) but really haven't a clue which area needs changing. To add to the problem, I may have changed something that needs changing back, only I can't remember what I've done
.
Could anyone talk me through this, i.e. what to look at and what to ensure is checked/unchecked in all the Tools options?
I'm on Freeserve Broadband (now Orange only my email address is still Freeserve), via a copperjet modem. I use Internet Explorer on Windows XP, if that narrows down the options!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Thanks DCFC, that's interesting. It never occurred to me that the email problem might be totally unconnected with my other problems.
I've followed the path you suggest above, but not sure where I type in those numbers. Would it be in the box next to where it says Outgoing Mail (SMTP)? All it says in the box at the moment is SMTP - does it need those numbers entered as well?
Also I'd presumably need another set of numbers to enter in the incoming mail POP3 box?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

to be honest i dont have the foggiest, what you need is another user who has orange as they're isp and who uses OE for the emails0 -
incoming mail server setting pop.freeserve.co.uk
and the outgoing mail server is: smtp.freeserve.co.uk0
