Bogof_babe you been IE/Firefox hijacked and probably infected with all sorts. Your logs alone are scary. I have always and will always promote that any serious infection needs complete removal. The only way to do this is a format of the Hard disk and reloading windows and all the other stuff. Yes it's long but it really is the only way to ensure complete removal. In 15 years of doing what I do, it may seem the hardest option but is by far the best. The speed of your PC will also speed up to 'like it was when you first bought it'! Change is good...

Seriously, I appreciate all your comments, and any reluctance you may have detected in my posts is simply because I am absolutely clueless about all this stuff. Probably why I ended up in this mess.

If someone could explain in layman's terms how to "format the hard disk and reload Windows", that I could print off, I might be brave enough to give it a go. Of course the problem is that once I've started I won't be able to get back on here if I get stuck or hit a snag.

I really need a second computer to run off my Orange ISP. My Asus is on BT (I'm currently at another address which is on BT) and I'm scared to mess it about, as using the other one on BT temporarily when it is set up for Orange caused a few other problems.

Do you think PC World would sort it out for me on my £7.99 a month cover plan, or don't they do virus removal?

Hi chaps, I'm back (been away for 9 days). When I switched the laptop on it told me I needed to run a Norton anti-virus update, which took about 10 minutes, but now that's finished this thing is absolutely whizzing along . It hasn't been this good in months.

Do you think that means I'm all sorted? Honestly the improvement is dramatic. Hope it isn't a blip :T.

Oh I did get a pop-up from SuperAntiSpyware saying there was an update available, but when I clicked okay to install it, there was nothing there in the box that should have listed what updates there were . Not going to worry about that though, just enjoying the responsiveness of this and hoping it lasts!
