Kirkcaldy ... can anyone tell me the delights ?

  • Expand your horizons and you'll never lack for something to do.

Perth pool (openair section for summer months unless you're really brave) is, I am assured, fantastic: leagues ahead of the rest. Dundee gets a good name too.

My daughter has been taking my 2 year old grandson to the pool beside Scotmid, at the foot of Leith Walk ("The Walk") in Edinburgh (short swim across the Forth  ), since he was about a month old. He loves it and the pool is interestingly laid out with flumes and wave systems as well as being properly patrolled and regulated by alert, efficient guards.

There is also a pool in Glenwood Community School, Glenrot where wee kiddies can get swimming lessons. There is probably simliar in Kirkcaldy. I think they encourage them to start quite young.

The National Museum (I think it's called the National Museum: attached to the Scottish one) in Chambers Street, off South Bridge, Edinburgh is exceptionally child friendly. Kiddies run around making as much noise as they like without causign offense. The large, sunken fish tanks in the foyer are a favourite attraction as are the many facinating activities organised for wee ones.

The museum is a place of learning for the kids and boasts a good play area for wee ones too.

My grandson loves it and has made many friends there. Good for adults too.

There's a Jungle Jim's in Glenrothes down near Morrisons in Flemmington Road. That provides ball pits, climbing networks and slides as well as having a faciltiy for refreshments.

I've just been told by my neighbour's wee lassies that there's a Jumpin Jack's in Kirkcaldy with the same idea.

Take a trip into Edinburgh and go to "The Ceramic Experience" near to Ocean Terminal where you can paint your own design onto ready made ceramics (eg tile, plate, or mug,) which will be baked in the kiln for you to collect another day. Painting the babies feet and hands then printing them onto these items proves extremely popular with new mums and provides treasured gifts for grandparents.

Refreshments and play area : ball pit etc, available: exceptionally sociable and child-friendly.

At Ocean Terminal on same floor as Britania shop and Cinema, there's Molly's (similar to Jungle Jim's). Refreshemnts and snacks and meals available there too: they'll collect meals from certain neighbouring restaurants for you too.

You'll find plenty activities for wee ones. My grandson loves his gymnastic class in Edinburgh but there's likely to be something similar in Fife. Also trampolining and toddler tumblers are popular with kiddies.

There's a big site at Salteford in Edinburgh too which has a fantastic huge play area opening and an organic cafe.

If you specify anything, in which you are particularly interested, we'll find out where and when for you. Salvation Army halls always have things going on for kiddies from mums with newborns through toddlers and up.

I hope your life in Kirkcaldy is a long and beautiful one and that you make many young friends with whom to share your days.

Enjoy motherhood. Is the most wonderful and interesting role in the world and that from one who has run hospital wards, worked as a journalist in London and been editor: all extremely enjoyable occupations but no job is as interesting, challenging and/or rewarding as is parenthood :j :j :j

Since being introduced to the delights of Lower Largo a few years ago we really like visiting and shopping in that area and often head to Leven for shopping. Lots of the usual shops in the High Street including Peacocks which we can't get to easily and my daughter loves, easy parking at the big Co-op and Argos. In fact we will be there one day this week during the holidays.

The leisure pool at Leven is great for kids, had a birthday sleep over at Lower Largo a couple of years ago and I left the teens in the pool while shopping for tea at Sainsburys.

Can't beat fish and chips at the Crusoe Hotel and a walk on the beach at Lower Largo, one day I would love to retire there.

Oh goodness see what you have been missing!

Nice Lidl with a reasonable car park which we sometimes park in then cross to the road and walk down the pedestrian High Street. On that first corner from Lidl there is a tiny little shop selling kids wedding and confirmation outfits and lots of little feather head pieces, bags, jewellery and wedding accessories.

A few charity shops, couple of poundland type, Habbitat, Boots (bit small), big Woolies with a large selection of household goods, can't remember which chain it is but could be Semi Chem and its quite a big one. Shop called Turret which my daughter likes and we have been lucky with reasonably prices trainers and shoes there. There is a small sort of department store whose name escapes me and while the upstairs ladies department is pretty old fashioned the downstairs area is quite trendy for clothes and big range of well priced costume jewellery. I think there might be a Mackays and Peacocks is down at the bottom beside the bus station with a small range of household goods as well.

I'll add any more I remember after our visit this week icon12.gif

I must get out more ! lol thanks thats brilliant :j
  • Oh dear. Fife not managing to keep you any more than it appeals to me. To where are you hoping to move?

Did you move here for work purposes? If so, try Edinburgh. It was amazing to my mind but I have a couple of friends who travelled through form , one of them Lanarkshire each day (Strathaven) the other from Ayrshire (Stewarton) to work in Fife. They didn't seem to unhappy although the traffic has increased greatly since then.

Linlithgow gets a good name for residency. I know a few folk who chose that spot and are happily settled with the amenities of the city within easy reach and the calm with rambling opportunites of the countryside on their doorstep.

Edinburgh's a great city: the amenities of a city with the feel of a town. It's rare to walk in the center without bumping into a friend with whom to go coffee drinking.

By the way, if you want to thank someone, there's a "Thanks" tab next to the quote tab under each posting.

But thank you for your thank you. lol!
  • Edinburgh even has Edinburghlass, going for it. lol And that CAN'T be bad. :-)

I seem to remember an excellent Indian restaurant that did an all you can eat for £8.00 buffet night. It was a long time ago mind.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
