Hi all
I am going away in a month or so and I am wondering what a holiday capsule wardrobe should contain. Anyone got any suggestions?
I once took a hand luggage size suitcase for 2 weeks in Barbados but I was staying in a house which had a washing machine and there will not be a washing machine at this years location and I don;t really want to use the hotel laundry service.
Grateful for any advice from someone who has been away with a small suitcase and has coped.

Basically, I would say that mix & match is your answer!
* Try & make sure that each item can be worn with at least 2 others to make different outfits.
* Stick to one or two colours with maybe a bright sarong / pashmina for highlighting.
* Simple styles, nothing too fussy if possible.
* Clean & pressed - most hotels will have an iron & board available, and you can always wash things in shampoo & leave to dry in the bathroom.0 -
Hi everyone
I think I've finally snapped - I've been sick of the contents of 90% of my wardrobe for some time now and I am determined to have a major major clearout before I move to London. The issue I have is that owing to a rubbish self-image that hung around me for most of my teenage years I have basically been wearing T-shirts and jeans day in day out for years, and I'm sick of it. The jeans are fine, but T-shirts don't suit me unless they are a certain cut/worn in a certain way, and so most of them need to be got rid of methinks.
So, here is my plan:
- Go through everything I have, try it on, get other people's opinions and be absolutely brutal about it
- eBay what I can
- Continue writing the list of what I need/want
- Go to Manchester and visit various shops' personal shopping services to get an idea of what suits me (this may become a regular thing to see what trends work on me and what don't)
- Not be tempted by stuff I don't need (she says, looking at T-shirts on TruffleShuffle...)
I have the horrible feeling I will crack when I try things on, as some of the things I have I absolutely adore but can't think of what to wear with them. But we'll see..."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -

Why not lay 1 thing on your bed, and then try trousers / jeans / skirt next to it to see what goes with what? Then apply the same principle with your sweater / cardi / jacket collection, and finally any scarves /accessories to coordinate / highlight the outfit.
Don't forget it can take a while to go through everything......do it in chunks then you won't start to get disheartened part way through a huge pile.
Let us know how you get on!0 -
Oooh, can I join?!
I have a Parisian friend and I am so envious of her as she has this tiny wardrobe full of good quality clothes that all mix and match. She just cannot understand why British women have massive wardrobes full of horrible clothes!
I am in a slightly different position to some of you as I am in the middle of some major weight loss. I obviously want to avoid buying anything new until I get to my goal weight. I plan to spend that transitional period selling my old stuff and putting the money in a clothes fund. I'm also going to actually sit down and write a list of what clothes I need. I want to buy a capsule wardrobe, not a lot of stuff that I like but doesn't match anything else or is totally unsuitable. I have just taken 4 bags of clothes that are now to big for me down to the charity shop. I am also sorting through my cosmetics and accessories to see what can be ebayed. I've got more make-up than I can ever wear!0 -
