surely you'd still be charging the same ? just in one figure, not two.

From my personal experience of selling books, buyers tend to go for the lowest price, if you incorporate say £5 postal charge in the book price it seems to put buyers off. There is also the point that you pay more in insertion fees as you start at a higher price. I almost always listed my books starting at 99p. The FVF charges will be higher as well, as postage prices are not included in them (or I don't think they were the last time I sold anything. I might be wrong!)

I agree that if everyone has to use free postage it does give a level playing field, but the trouble is that some books, for example, are very much heavier than others and buyers might not realise that your book price includes £5.00 postage when a similar, but lighter book will appear to be a lot cheaper in the listing.

ebay are really started to get on my nerves since they stopped sellers leaving negs ive seen so many buyers leaving stupid negs, for example i sold a bear buyer wanted to scam me saying bear was dirty when it was brand new asked her to return teh bear but shes ignored me she left me bad feedback now i cant let other buyers no what they are like as i cant leave neg.

as for the free postage and postage limits they are really frustrating, i wanted to sell a bundle of 15+ ps3 games but was only allowed to charge i think it was £2.75 which no way cover the cost, in teh end i didnt bother selling them.

Just add the difference to the start price. I really find it difficult to understand why people have a problem understanding this concept

Why not list them in the wholesale and job lots category? No postage restrictions, and you are not mis-categorising them so no chance of it being pulled.

So make sure your fees are covered in the starting price as well....

    For example - old price was £1 + £1 P&P, new price is £2.25 inc P&P.

Did the buyer do this to just you? Or have they a record of continually giving negative feedback? If they are abusing the feedback system, then ebay will eventually take action if brought to their attention (but it might take some time)

If it was just you, then I guess you received negative feedback because the buyer did not have a positive experience buying from you.

That's exactly why ebay had to change the system ... to allow buyers who had a negative buying experience to leave appropriate feedback without fear of receiving a retaliatory negative feedback themselves.

Edit: it appears you already have created a thread of your own to discuss this point. Let's not disrupt the OP's thread further :)

You would need more than £1.25 extra to cover postage and packaging plus the 10% ebay fees

  • as of today i have gone with free P&P for all my listings.

i decided that rather than have some items with and some without i may as well take the hint and go the whole hog before ebay force everyone too anyway.

we will see how it pans out over the next couple of months.
