You can finish 4th in your own domestic league and still qualify for the champins league, what is your point here?

Or fifth if you are Liverpoolicon7.gif

Presumably 'Champions' is short for 'Champions, runners up, placed and also fourth (depending where you come from of course - we can't have some !!!!!! knocking out Manyoo or Ray Al in the first round )'

It ain't having a go mat but I think they are all in the last few years when they have been dominating their league. that is my point that is all.

why do man united fans want to pretend they are the most successful English club in European competition.

You united fans are so easy to wind up.:D

Maybe not European, OK let us step it up a level - Most successful English team in World football icon7.gif 99 Inter-continental champs, 2008 World champs
I can't quite find the Liverpool victories

Add to the fact that the groups are seeded, so almost every group has one patsy who has no chance. Man U topped their group by winning 2 matches out of six this year.

It's 4 x easier to qualify for the Champions League than it was the European Cup.
It should be easy to get through the group stages.

Once in the last 16 it is pretty tough - much tougher than the equivalent old style European Cup stage.

The only thing is the teams were probably not as good, as it often excluded the form team from various countries i.e the team that was going to win their current title, sometimes the best teams could be found in the Uefa cup (this is now a nomark tournament). Were Everton not champions when Liverpool played Juventus in the final (as an example for you Kenny icon7.gif)

If we change the argument a little and consider fanbases..........

When Celtic played Porto in the uefa cup final a few years ago they took 80,000 fans to Seville.

I can only think of one other team that could do that,.............

and it isn't liverpool, manu, barcelona or any of "them"

I think it is shameful the amount of money that has been payed out for Ronaldo, but it is football. It wont stop until FIFA stand in the way of the big clubs doing what there doing, I would say that Ronaldo is up there with some of the best football players I have seen in my life time. Zidane was better and is the only player I can think of who was. I think he went for something like £46million, there no way Ronaldo is worth double, I know because of the exchange rates it hasn't worked out like that in Spain but still you could buy a team that could stay in the premiership fighting for Europe.

Man Utd doing there best for the trade deficit, wouldn't like to be a council tax payer in Madrid as they will end up paying for Ronaldo, hey Tramp guy, Macaque and Slaphead how would you like that icon7.gif Three cheers for Franco's club :T

Actually i was alive when we had the old format and i know it was home and away, what i meant was if you lost the tie you were gone.
Just like now, then...........on that basis the FA cup is harder than the PL to win as if you lose 1 game your out.
