    Post race thoughts

Reflecting on the race and the results of the predicted times according to Fetch and with my race time i get the following. All more or less the same as my own spreadsheet says bar the odd second off on the 5 and 10k which is down to the numbers i use to calculate no doubt.

    5K 24:07
    10K 50:16
    Half 1:50:50
    Marathon 3:51:05

Personally i suspect the 10k time could drop below 50 as i'd not be running with a tight hamstring. I passed the 6 mile marker with a time of 49:07 and when doing this clubs 10k last year i clocked 51:53 which is still my current PB. Having done the course a few times now (the 10 mile and 10k use the same bits more or less) and knowing i did it wrong last year by forgetting it climbs in the latter half of it i'm sure i can get at least 2 mins off the time at this years race in September.

Running the race yesterday i could tell my hamstring was tight as there was occasional dull aches from it as well as my knee. The knee because the hamstring tendon would be acting on it and i usually get this if i have a tight hamstring. Did also notice that there wasn't much of a kick at the end but then i've not done speedwork for bloody ages and even hen i do it its not normally a lot.

I did however feel like i could of carried on going at more or less the same speed for longer than i had to. Another 5k would of been half marathon distance and to beat 1:50 for that i'd of needed to do it in 27 mins roughly which was roughly what i could of done i suspect. Would of been close anyway.

Distinct lack of 5k's up here so god knows when i'll next get to do one of them but sub 25 should be easy enough and possibly even sub 24. These short races hurt, i'm used to longer stuff.

Pretty sure i can get a half time down towards 1:50 or less. Darn sure sub 1:55 will be happening whenever i next do one as its only a few mins less than my current PB. Marathon time is ripe for getting reduced to, just a little less sure on dropping sub 4 just yet.

McMillan says for a 3:59:59 marathon you should be doing these times for

5K 24:37 well erm i can do this fairly easily i reckon
10K 51:08 again i can do this i reckon and probably did yesterday if i had a working garmin
10 mile 1:25:41 well i went alost 2.5 mins faster yesterday so that ones done too
Half 1:53:47 which is a little over 3 mins faster than my current one but i suspect if i'd carried on to half distance yesterday i'd of gone under this too

Now much more confident on reaching sub 4 being i actually have a race time that says i can do it. Some more would help but in the meantime my spreadsheet also lists me the times for a 3:44:59 marathon again using McMillan which gives me somthing to work towards. Off course once the sub 4 is done that block of McMillan times will be replaced with the times for a 3:29:59 marathon as you always need a longer term target.

Don't you like bananas EC? I do, and I have a special favourite way of eating them. I like them to have black dots on them, not over-ripe, but just moving towards it. I mash them up and mix in some rolled oats, about a couple of handfuls, then just eat them like that. When other people have seen me eating them like this they usually pull a face, but it is something my mum and dad have always eaten so in our house it was always a normal food. I love it and it is a really good running fuel. The sugar from the banana and the slow-release carbs in the oats are brilliant.
