Any new races that need adding/amending - let me know and I'll make the necessary changes!

    Black = Completed Races.
    Blue = Planned Races.

The blue figures next to the results are the WAVA age grading percentage followed by the relevant world record to which the time is being compared.

With age grading everyone is on an equal footing - the score takes out any advantage/disadvantage due to age and any advantage/disadvantage due to being male/female.

So whatever your age or sex if you score 52% it is better than another person's 51% regardless of their age/sex.

So what are the scores? They are quite simply a measure of your performance compared to the person who holds the world record for that distance in your age group and of your gender.

Clearly some of the WRs are out of date, but there has to be a stable basis on which to calculate otherwise the gradings would need to be re-computed every time a WR changes.

So, in simple terms your WAVA rating is:

Your time is 4 x World Record 25.00%
Your time is 2 x World Record 50.00%
Your time is 1.5 x World Record 66.67%
Your time is 1.25 x World Record 80.00%

Oh a shiny new thread for us, best alter bookmark then

Gosforth 10 and a naked PB

Lovely start to this race, turned Garmin on and got the beep of death. Well ok low battery. Batterly life zero hours. Must of turned itself on when i removed it from the laptop the other day. Oh well with no means to pace my self accurately i had to resort to my RW stopwatch.

Bumped into a couple of the Derwent AC posse on the way down to the start and followed them past the start in search of a spot of hedge to 'reduce my fluid weight'. Time was very short and on the log back down the hill i was still a 100 yards or more behind the back of the pack when the hooter went. Oh well a quick sprint past the rear vehicle and squeezing through some of the back markers before settling into a more sedate pace until i reached the main road.

About 30 seconds (forgot what the watch actually said when i crossed the line so i cant figure it out exactly) i realised i'd hit the reset not the start button on the watch. My excuse is i dont really use it for running. Hell took me 5 mins before the race to remember how to lap the bliddy thing.

Reaches the main road and headed off down the main west coast A road which was baffling lacking traffic tonight. It was so devoid of traffic i actually turned the Ipod on earlier than i intended too (IE about 4 miles when we leave the main road). Was gonna have it anyway but being i had a dead Garmin i decided it would be vital if i wanted to get my pacing right.

Along down the main road i went overtaking a few people here and there. Through Holmrook before turning off the main road. A short sharp hill then onto Irton levels which is a dead straight mostly flat road which goes for over a mile. Drinks station half way along which being it was in plastic cups saw me walking briefly to drink it.

Drink over and off again i went rocking along to Quo going thrugh a tree lined section. Began to drop down to a river but there is a bit of a climb before the final drop. Not knowing how fast i was going at any given time and relying on the ability to work out mile splits based on remembering the previous one (bliddy hard actually so i cheated and went via minutes only) i decided the last little hill bit was gonna be a fast walk.

Hit the top and down the other side but not fast as its pretty steep and there is a left turn at the end onto the road back to Gosforth. Once onto the Gosforth road i picked it up a bit as it still drops down for a bit. Over the river and past a pub. Wasn't tempted to slip over for a quick sip of beer honest. Then a longish climb of no real incline but long.

Having walked the bit earlier this was realtively easy and i never really slowed down at all. Got to the second water station and grabbed a cup full which i drank whilst walking up a little hill just past the drinks station. Got to the top of the hill and looked behind me to see several runners a 100 metres or so behind me. This must of spurred me on as i was soon off again and not a single person passed me, all ace for that matter.

Just before entering Gosforth there is an annoying hill but as bouncy style climb soon had me over it before upping the pace a little just to make sure no one caught me. Through Gosforth and then into the playing field for the last bit straight into the sun. Good job this is the 4 or 5th Gosforth 10 mile or 10k race i've done so i know which way to run to hit the finish funnel.

Crossed the line to a call of 15 so i knew that being it was 1:22:45 roughly on my watch i'd done it in 1:23:15 which is almost a 4 min PB being my old time was 1:27:07. Very pleased with that espcially as i suspected my right hamstring was tight end of last week. This suspicion was proven correct as soon after finishing it was beginning to lock up. Oh well nothing fast to run for a few months so nothing to worry about too much.

Mile splits using the assumption i had 30 seconds missing from my time which got added onto the first mile split and also taken off the last mile split as i delibratly stopped the watch on my correct race time so i could get this done tonight.

    8:09
    8:08
    7:52
    8:12
    8:45 drinks walk break
    8:01
    9:31 the hill i walked
    8:49 drinks walk break
    7:55
    7:53

    Total 1:23:15 for 10 miles @ 8:20 pace

This is now my fastest race ever which means all my target times have changed on my fancy spreadsheet. It is also a time quicker than the 10 mile time needed for a Sub 4 marathon according to McMillan so i am equally happy there. The 10k split would of been roughly 50 mins too which is another pleasing thing. I even went through the 7 mile marker in under a hour which i was also pleased about.

Starting the race in the right spot and not already running may well have meant a sun 1:23 time but tbh i'm not overly bothered by it as i only predicted 1:24 for this race and i went under that easily enough.

Just realised that tonight's run was the highest WAVA rating so far....now that's the bonus from slipping a birthday in there!:D:D

Raph - You're probably right, but it was 6-0 after all so a decent watch!:D

Simply, I'm not sure about the next serious attempt at 10K, I can see one booked for Oct 11th but I'm sure there'll be one or two more in between - its not too important to run 10Ks very often though while I'm in marathon training. With weekly 5Ks under the belt anyway its more important to get some half marathons into the equation!

Hey Rich, can you add me to the list of VLM 2010 runners? I've got to wait for the 'yes' first, but I'll let you know if I don't get in.
I've also sourced out another half marathon on Sun 18th October '09, Dartmoor Vale Half if you could slot me in thanks :)

Hi, How exciting, a new thread! That is a fantastic 10k time Rich. I'm very impressed. Thanks for your comments on my training plan for my half in September. I'm not sure about doing an autumn marathon but I don't want to lose the fitness that I have built up during my Prague training. OH is planning to run the Snowdonia marathon in October but it is hilly and I don't like hills. Someone in my ladies running group mentioned Dublin but I haven't decided yet. I figured that 16 miles isn't really long enough for my long run but I ws feeling lazy! :o:o

KMS - that's a great new pb for 10 miles well done.

Sally, hope you are feeling better soon.

By the way, just been out again whilst ds was doing football training and did 10k in 55mins, so pleased with that for a midweek training run.

    Night all.
