You are right Rich. I used to go alot of classes at the gym which I enjoyed doing, but when I started to be encouraged to run by my OH he kept saying "classes won't help you run!".He's a good runner and sets himself goals and achieves them. Last year was to run a marathon. This year it's Triathlon and his 1st one is next weekend. He's now looking into Ultramarathons! Don't get me wrong - he's not pressuring me to do anything I don't want to do, he's very encouraging and as I keep moaning about being overweight I know it's me that has to do something about it and running is a good way of doing that. He just makes it look so effortless. My problem is with me! I get upset with myself and feel frustrated when I can't do things. Carrying the extra weight doesn't help when running but I know that it will come off with some extra effort - I'm already half a stone lighter. I've always had a problem with if something doesn't click - or I can't do something straight away I lose interest in it. Sometimes when I'm jogging I feel like I'm barely moving and could walk faster - And I can't seem to pick the pace up.
I've thought about a running club. I know there's some nearby as I saw them running whilst I was out on my 6.6 getting lost run! But again as I seem to run so slowly I just think they'd get annoyed with me for being so slow. My last experience with a running club (albeit years ago) was one of the coaches getting exasperated with me and saying "I really don't know why you bother!" I guess it stuck with me.
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.

That coach sounds like an idiot K, a good club should have a range of abilities and welcome anyone. Don't get knocked back by one person but then again is running what you really want to do or would another sport be more enjoyable for you? Not trying to put you off though!

Funnily enough OH said on his way to the gym this morning "if you don't like running then don't do it" If I'm being brutally honest it's not that I don't like running - I don't like that I don't seem to be very good at it!! And the only way for that to improve is to continue. I did the race for life and I like the feeling of achievement crossing the line. And now I've said I'm going to do the GNR, and have raised some sponsorship money for cancer research as an incentive to make me go ahead and do it - I do want to cross the finish line!

So I'm going to stop my whining - log off here and get to the gym! :D

So are you going do do any races prior to the Bristol Half to consolidate some of this training? I thnk it would be a good idea to get a 10K or 10mile , or both, done in the near future to see where you're at!

Ermm ... No, no and no :D...

Will just keep hitting the streets... well as much as can... to many long haul runs to get to Hotels ETC and Music gigs in the next few weeks so need beer moneys for that to :D. so no more pennys for running events :p... and i dont like 5k before you mention that .

Well, I'm back! And feeling a bit better about myself too. For the first time I ran 3 miles without stopping :j

I did 5 miles in total on the treadmill, 3 miles at a 1% incline, 1 mile at 0.5% and 1 mile on zero incline and I did 5.19 miles in total averaging 12.20mins per mile. And according to Nike + burned 804 calories too! Trouble is now I'm ravenous!!:rotfl::rotfl:

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
