lol UK I think I should start ordering my dh around like that!

Well done Idio and krider, good runs.

Just over 4 miles for me today, had to ease off a bit down the beach as someone was in trouble in the water so lots of people/lifeguards about. Hope the person is OK.
  • Thanks Uk, I'll try that on Saturday - I think I might be psychic though as I'm sure I can foresee what response I'll get from my OH. :rotfl:

Well done on the 9 miles Idio - it's much more interesting outside isn't it? Although evab I think that must have been quite a distraction - hope they're ok.

Hey Rich - thanks for posting the pics, I'm so proud of myself for doing that run! Becky, I can't believe you've only been running a year - such an inspiration. I'm finding myself desperate to get out and run, even really slowly - just to keep going. Everything else around the house and kids that needs doing is so annoying! Then I'm back in work on Wednesday - how annoying is that!!! Work - when I could be running - aarrgghh!

I'll just keep up the 3 miles odd trips, maybe push a few over the 4 mile mark, and when it feels a bit static, (ha ha!) I'll be back for more advise!

And I'm wondering whether to do Roundshaw again on Saturday, or try Banstead woods - anyone done that one? Grief- I am getting obsessive!

Krider - so good to hear you've made similar achievements, that means it really is possible, not that Becky is a one off super woman - although, I think she is actually!

    This is so exciting!

One downside, left my trainers at the gym on Saturday - gone. Oh well, they were pretty knackered anyway, but only have a bit of an uncomfortable pair now. The lost ones were Asics Gel 1120 - pretty comfy - but obsolete now. Any recommendations on good value ones to buy? Bearing in mind I'm putting in far more mileage now.

I wear ascis cumulus 10s I think (had 9s before), you can still get the gel ones as well...ask the peeps in the shop to recommend a similar one (and try them out by running down the street) :D Simply has made similar progress - and I think Uk has too - so its not just me. Rich also couldnt run a while back - his mara was before mine so he might have only taken a year to get back (although its easier the second time around ;))

Well done Idio and Evab on your runs too :D

Simply - Uk is right tapering is very personal - it may take a few goes to get it right - I'll do a gentle 10k on Saturday before my 10 mile race on Sunday, but I prefer to keep moving as much as possible...for a half I'd do less mileage in the week before but still do 4-6 miles on Saturday very slowly. For the marathon I did a few miles every day except the day before, which I think was okay too - so there's lots of scope for variation :D (um sorry that doesnt help does it :p)

It was a lot less than that but its quite right to say it takes much less time second (or thirteenth!) time around.

I spent 10 weeks from the beginning of September last year concentrating on predominantly walking up to 50 miles per week. I was itching to get running to get the time requirement down but it was important to put the groundwork in to strengthen up all the muscles/tendons etc after a lot of inactivity.

So really the running training only started cautiously in November and the Blackpool marathon was 5th April, so about 5 months from being 4 stone overweight to marathon completion.

Krider - Theres no need to wait for the Reading parkrun to be set up....theres existing events at Slough and Guildford in that neck of the woods.:D

:rotfl::rotfl: Thanks Becky - you're right that doesn't help at all! ;) I think I'll still run the same weekly miles as in my training plan but just do them on the days that are easiest to fit in around work and run one of them on Saturday.

bj-sailaway - Becky is right; I only really started running in February of this year (after a few previous half hearted attempts on the treadmill) and am entering my first half marathon on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it :D

I nearly forgot to say the photos are great - you all look like you're having a good time.

Hey Krider, Rich isn't going to let you sit around is he!!!

What an evening - set out for me run, nice sunny but cool evening, achieved a PB of 10:18 for my 3.62 miles! Woo hoo! Oh, the joy of a personal best. I could easily have carried on, so I'm going to re-set to 4 miles tomorrow.

Becky - you said 3 miles twice a day got you started, I've had a lightbulb moment, that'd be about the distance for me to work - and home again! I think I might ditch the bike for a bit!

Did I mention today was a personal best???!!!
