thanks Becky / Rich,/uk
I will need to improve a fair bit to get up near those times, but thats what its all about. I like the idea of separating the two disciplines, speed and distance. i am going to have to set myself a time though just to keep my legs moving.
for today as its my first longer run i think under 6.0 per km will do.Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898
Target 2013... Half Marathon under 2 Hrs:cool:

How can the results be up for 2009 already - have I lost half a year or something :eek:0

Hey all - just checking in. AM still plugging away with the running - my goal now is to get to 4 miles. Finding it hard though - have read back a bit, and Rich it was really helpful to read about needing a specific goal to aim at. I think I need a bit of motivation to help me crack on - if you see what I mean.
Positives though - I can run 3 miles now - 3 months ago I couldn't run a mile.Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

You have so much time to train that that will become no sort of challenge by the time the race day comes along, however unlikely that seems now.
Or put it this way, I've never known anyone who is capable of running a 10K who isnt capable of running a half marathon with suitable training.
So what can happen is that motivation decreases as the training progresses and the challenge gets downgraded in your own mind to the status of 'so what' because you know you can do it.
So far better to set a time, say 2 hours, which is physically impossible for you to achieve at the moment.
Then, as training progresses, and the seemingly impossible comes into reach, your motivation grows towards race day rather than the other way around.
Yet more sound advice, cheers for that. I think I have just about reached the stage in my running where i can start to bother about monitoring speed and distance as separate entities. Up until now my aim was to comfortably complete 10K, which I can now do (albeit in around 63mins, which is quite slow I think). The timings you mentioned for 5K (25:50) and 10K (54:00) are really helpful. I suppose they could be intermediary goals to aim for before the half next year.0
