  • I'm probably looking into it too much, but just been on looking online at this years results of the half marathon I intend to run next year. If I were to run the half in 2 hours, according to this years results that would place me 382nd out of 510 runners!!! I think I've got my work cut out!

10 weeks is a lot of time, BJ, to get to the point of running a 10K.

Use the parkruns to build up...by increasing your warm up before the race. The warm up should be very, very slow but should be built to be 5K so that taken with the race itself you will have actually covered 10K.

You may well be surprised to see your parkrun times come down as a result, but build up to it gradually.:D

OK, build up to a snail pace 5K warm-up, before a park run - that's an excellent idea! And feels achievable, with a bit of work.

The good news is, I've got the whole of August off work! Woo hoo! I was made redundant, but have been re-deployed to another department, but negotiated a nice 5 week holiday inbetween. Loads of training time - hooray! With 10 days in Gardenstown, North East Coast of scotland, oh the hills! Don't know if you can look on a map? But good training.

OK, 1st Park Run down - lets make them fairly routine then! And heading for 10K - grief, this is soooo addictive!

Been out this morning, clocking mileage on my bike for good routes, with extended mileage.

    Thanks guys!

Cupcake, brilliant progress! You're defo gonna be a 'participant' next year, it'll be a breeze if we follow the advise on here!

Dont worry about it Miss_Cupcake...in this years Eccup 10 I was:
    465th out of 523 runners

So that means 88% of the runners came in front of me

If you finished 382 out of 510 it would be only 75%!

Interesting chatting last night/today on pace/speed and times at 5k and 10k for 2h marathons. I've learnt the pace/speed one for sure now - and even thought I was doing the slowness right at the weekend

I pushed the pace today in a different way to yesterday, which was just unintentional speedy. Today I sped up much earlier intentionally to get a couple of mid-run miles at a faster pace to see how the legs would cope after that with a couple of miles still to go. Pleased to report they did OK though I could feel them arguing back a little bit. Mile 5 was a bit of a recovery (though still less than 10:00 pace) and mile 6 was the fastest mile of the run :) Mostly a different route to that I've been doing lately for some variety too. So 6 miles done in 56:15 (9:21 pace).

Total this week = 12 miles

    uk.......you have a strange mind!

just got back. managed my 8 miler in just under 1.20mins

pace was a little erratic ranging from about 5.40-6.15 per km.

most im portantly is that knee is holding out. no problems on the way round, i did feel a bit knackered towards the end but no pain

i guess tomorrow will be the test as to how it feels.

could it be that i finally get that park run in this week?? hope so.
