Hey Becky - did you really go from zero to 10 miles in 5 months? That's brilliant! Do tell the plan sometime?!

Yep I did - I also went to marathon in tenish months :D:D

Lots and lots and lots of running - week in week out, and really really slowly - started with 3 miles twice a day and built up from there to be honest :D

I love it though - the first 2 months was awful but everything else was all about the fun and how hard I could push it! Been running about a year now and I cant wait for the next year :D

    Week 4/15 (Abingdon)
    Mon 27/7 4 Miles 00:40:30 (10:03/mile)

This morning's run was not the best and the pace was not down to me being controlled - it felt hard! So, Rich/Becky I think I'm in need of some more words of wisdom and experience please. :D

Usually after my LSR on a Sunday I am busy cooking, cleaning, ironing and doing all the things that need to be done so I spend a fair amount of my time on my feet. After Friday's run I spent around 6 hrs sitting in the car (grrr to traffic jams) and then was sat on my backside for most of the weekend socialising until yesterday when I was in the car for another 4 1/2 hours.

Is it likely that my heavy legs this morning were due to my inactivity over the weekend?

Looks like there's been some good running over the weekend, I haven't had the opportunity to read through thoroughly so will post properly later. ;)

Yep, inactivity after heavy mileage = v. sluggish!

Thats why it is usually better to have an easy run on the day before a race rather than a rest!:D

I've gone from the ridiculous at the weekend, to the sublime (for me) today!

6 miles done this lunchtime in 56:47 (9:26 pace) :j:j Faster than both 10k races I've done (though one of those was on tufted grass for at least half the route), and apart from the last mile where I was making a serious effort it felt good :D Each mile was approx. 30 seconds faster than the previous one so consistent ramping up too.

I need a sit down now after that - shock not tiredness :rotfl:

Total for the week = 6 miles

I also have made a similar transation, though I've not followed it to marathon and training mileages like becky. I started running in February, and my longest run now is 13.5 miles. As becky said, consistent miles each week gets you there, even if at times it feels like it wont. You get bad runs/weeks, but then you get amazing runs/great progress which makes it worthwhile.

Sorry I'll be quiet now - my endorphins are flying I think :)

Glad you are both enjoying yourselves Uk and Krider :D

Just in case anyone was worried about Sarkozy's fainting thing while out running:

    In the same article:
And if your aim is to lose weight, he says, then regularly walking uphill at a brisk pace for more than 15 minutes can be the most effective way of achieving that.

So Rich/Becky - my training plan says to run 8, 4 and 6 miles before the Stur Half on Sunday. I was going to run these Tues, Wed and Thurs, with an additional short run on Fri, but given my heavy legs this morning would it be better to spread these runs out over the week and save one of them for Saturday? (sorry, I will become better at this tapering malarky honestly). ;)

Some good performances there Uk and Krider - it sounds as though you are both enjoying your running :D

Did a nice gentle 9 at lunch today - first time I've been out in too long.

Tried to do a 5k on the treadmill on saturday - set it at 1.5% incline, 7min/miles (which ought to be easy enough over 5k...) - and just gave up after about 1.3 miles...just so hard/boring...can't decide why that was, really, but really didn't enjoy it. Oh well, onwards and upwards, I guess :)
