  • Sounds like that was a bit blustery Rich; still it all adds to the fun.

Good luck to you and Becky with the 5k's tomorrow - fingers crossed it's not so windy :D

    Thanks, Simply!

Its always worse on the other side of the Pennines though. :p

So expecting windy, very wet and hilly....what we really need is some ice on the ground to at least make it a bit challenging!:p

Interesting race this morning - the weather was actually quite kind this morning but dead and injured animals played an unwelcome role in the race.

As with most parks early morning there are a fair number of dogs, which is not a problem at all - its just unfortunate that some of them are daft enough to bring their owners with them.

So after a steady start I was settled in 5th posn and setting the 4th position as the next target as we approached the big hill which is a much loved feature of this course.

As we negotiated a line bypassing a couple of dogs one of the owners suddenly called their big hairy alsation, which dutifully turned on its heels and turned straight into my path - much squealing ensued as the dog took my knee right in its midrift at speed. I hobbled on but then had to start the hill feeling pretty winded and limping from the bash to the knee.

Towards the end we then had to negotiate around a dead fish which had inconsiderately parked its carcass right in the middle of the path.

All in all, the end result was not too bad considering.

Becky says that she set off too slowly, although that was the plan, and came home in 27:08 [53.05%], exactly the same time as last week!. Compared to 27:08 at Leeds this was probably the better effort and shows that there is plenty more to come.

    Happy windy weekend running everyone.:D

This is totally random, and pretty horrible! OK, my toenails are going black! aarrgghh! At first I thought I'd bashed my toe but couldn't place when, but it's getting worse on several toes, and seems to be after I've been running.

Oh crap - tell me this isn't a side effect of running? Is it my shoes, socks, or just that my body is totally inadequate!!!

Bj - the only cause of black toe nails is excessive pressure restricting blood pressure to the affected area.

It is nothing that isnt reversible but certainly not something you should put up with. Shoes with more toe room and/or more width should sort you out.....:D

Ooh, well done Becky and Rich - first in age groups :T:T

Ha, ha - welcome to running bj_sailaway. :DI've got four black toe nails and haven't dared to wear open toe shoes during the sunny weather. I've just bought new running shoes a size larger to see if that helps - I kept getting sore toes every time I did a LSR.

Black toenails are the pits though aren't they? Oh yes, it gets worse - I think mine are dropping off now :rotfl::rotfl:

Hmmm, Rich beat me to it there - and put it so much more politely too!!! The larger shoes do seem to be helping though!!!

    Well done Rich and Becks.

R.e trainers, I wear mens a 1/2 size bigger to give me more width and space for my toes.

No, no no - tell me they're not going to fall off - aarrgghh!!! I thought my shoes were quite comfy, I'll wear thinner socks today, I've had quite thick towellingy ones on, cos I hate the really short socks, like granny socks (as my kids call them) that come above my trainers!

Oh grief - I never planned on this!

    Not giving up though.
