I'd be willing to take that chance.
If they are lacking money to such a degree then they are hardly likely to be in position to do much to dispute it.
Did you really say that? Oh my goodness. I take it you work for the DWP? your attitude would explain why it's in such a mess then.

obviously you all work for the jobcentre in one form or another
or have some close connection.
your replies are about as clear as the system itself and the
clarity of logic or thoughtfulness is very poor.
obivously your not here to help but to try and show the fact you
know the system better than others, the problem is they need
the money but for you guys it's a sad way to hassle people.0 -
Thank you, I have read all the posts.
You misunderstand my point. You are suggesting that if the OP could not attend to sign on due to finance he would be able to demonstrate good cause due to financial circumstances, I get that. The 'allaying of fears' is what worries me.
A number of people have disagreed with you that financial difficulty would constitute good cause, and I would hate to think that either the OP or anyone in a similar situation might read your opinions and think it were that simple, because it isn't.
The OP is in receipt of CTC, WTC and CB. The fact that he is in receipt of WTC almost six weeks after work ending suggests to me that his partner works enough hours for the couple to get WTC based on her working hours, so they also have her wage (or maternity pay) coming in. They aren't yet receiving HB and CTB from what I can make out but equally aren't paying their rent or council tax. I would suggest that he might have a hard time showing that he could not scrape together £3 bus fare to sign on.
Actually this is wrong we are in receipt of WTC as my partner is self employed and currently has not had any work in since last January so her tax return profit figure is zero BUT as she is doing jobs for her 16 hours a week to rebuild her portfolio and is looking for jobs she is classed as working hence the WTC and BEFORE anyone jumps down my throat yes HMRC know the full score and yes this is correct according to them.
As for £3 bus fare? Try finding a bus first we don't live in an urban area, please don't make assumptionwe HAVE to keep the broadband going as it's more important (IMHO) than the job centre for finding work especially as part of our portfolio is web hosting and graphic design so no internet no chance of any work.
Car insurance, Electricity bill (currently at £150 per month, rural middle of nowhere electric heating nuff said)
Baby formula is nearly £10 a week (still waiting on the healthy start vouchers which incidentally dont cover second stage milk anyway !!!!!!)
Anyway I don't want to get into a long list of bills etc we have to pay that's no one here's business anyway.
I've had a missed call today from Job Centre Plus asking me to call an 020 number, which I now can't till monday. Is this good, bad, mean nothing? Now going to be worried sick all weekend
Oh and before anyone pipes up I was out all day chasing up some leads for work etc not out having a laugh.
Had a letter from the council saying we have 7 days to pay before they get a court order to pay and then send the bailiffs round, despite me contacting them and keeping them informed as to what is going on.
The council have said repeatedly they cannot take HB and CTB claims further till they see my award notice from Job Centre Plus and until then they will not suspend enforcement action against us (despite us never having missed a payment until now)
I wasn't suggesting that I would not attend but was simply stating fact that if there's no money then there's no money simple as that I have to feed and clothe my children first and foremost after all.
Perhaps if the unemployed were given bus passes like the OAPs get then that would be ok oh wait no that wouldn't help as I wouldn't have had it yet anyway lol
I in no way blame JCP for the current state it's not their fault the current situation with the economy etc and I certainly have no intension of getting ratty with anyone when it's nothing to do with them and they're doing the best they can and in fact everytime I have called in they've bent over backwards to be helpful.
I just hope this phone call isn't anything to worry about, perhaps it's in relation to the phone call I made Thursday chasing it again as it had been 6 weeks to the day and the lady said she would escalate it and get it looked at straight away0 -

Yay at last its not a !!!!*** contest on who knows most and most of us on benefit already feel like a sub class so we don't need help to feel worse"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.0 -
I don't understand Stan's hostility. The regulars have bent over backwards to establish the reason why he's having so many problems with the Job Centre ; he never explains why. Instead he chooses to bash the very people here who are trying to help.

What about doing a course with the Open University? They would pay for your course and give you a £500 grant (don't have to pay it back) for study material and travel costs to tutorials. One of my neighbour's adult children, also got the broadband paid for and a laptop bought for her. You do need to finish the course though or be liable to pay it back. You might even continue your study, get a degree and improve your job prospects?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Until 2007 I worked for the DWP processing JSA. The government in there wisdom decided to slash staff numbers by closing offices.
The office I worked at originally was very good at hitting clearance targets. We used to clear the vast majority of claims within 5 working days (when the target was 12 working days) in fact we were taking claims from other offices who were having problems clearing them and sending them back.
However the message from above was they would rather have fewer staff costs and have offices just hitting the target. Customer service was pushed out in favour of reducing staff costs.
When I finished in early 2007 we were very busy but still hitting the target (just). All your outstanding claims would fit into a couple of "toast racks" on your desk.
I went in to see people in late 2007 just as things were worsening. When I said about the work amounts looking the same as when I left, I was told that just one days work was on desk and all the rest was in filing cabinets behind us.
To be fair to people the office I worked at went on a strict date order policy, oldest first. Until that date was clear no other work could be got out.
They were about 3 weeks behind at that point.
Bearing in mind even if a claim is cleared in 12 wd this takes it into the 3rd week and then any payment will take another 4-5 wds.
The office I was at was recruiting but struggling to find room to physically fit staff in, crazy situation.
I always tried to be sympathetic to customers, but when you are drowning in claims and get call after call saying I desparate wheres my money its hard to stay upbeat.
Things are much harder now then when I left.
Just wanted to give the other side of the coin as it were, the whole system is at fault. The number of times we were asked to do different counts and stats, all of which slowed us down and never seemed to improve things. The staff are rarely listened to and all these ideas of how to work come from managers who have no idea.
Too many chiefs and not enough indians.
So sorry to all of you waiting and to the poster who was told a giro was going out and it didn't appear- the sytem is so rubbish that you might go in and release a giro, it would show as issued all day and overnight........... disappear off the system. We frequently had sytem faults most of which took months and months to solve, many cases had to be completely deleted and start again (sometimes the fault reappear afterwards) however cases can be done manually, but this is discouraged as it is alot more work and time consuming. Plus alot of newer staff don't get the thourough training we used to get, some don't even know how to do manual stuff.
I could and did use to check the computers calculation, but some staff just trust it the "computer says no" brigade.
Hope everyone gets things sorted soon, just one more big mess by GB and his cronies.
