JSA claims taking 6 weeks?

If their only source if income is the benefit they haven't been paid and the distance was too far to walk?
You'd lose that appeal in my opinion.
Perhaps. But what do you suggest the OP does in the months that it takes the appeal to be heard? He can't feed his family on principles.
Do you really think that's it is in the OP's best interests to advise him to take a course of action which has a chance of making his situation worse?
OP, have you spoken to your LA regarding your HB/CTB claim? Is it in payment at all? You say you haven't been able to claim properly but I don't see any reason for them holding up your claim because of the DWP backlog? They should still be able to pay?0 -

have you read all the posts?
I was advising nothing. merely trying to allay his fears should he find himself in a situation whereby he cannot afford to travel to the jobcentre, a scenario brought up as a realistic one by the OP.
I intimated such previously.0 -
OP ask them to make you interim payments while your claim is being processed as it is causing you financial problems. They MUST make these (as far as I recall, these are made at JSA rates and then deducted from your JSA once processed so you don't lose anything)
Don't make any threats about not attending or not looking for work as they will merely suspend your claim.
Be nice to the person you speak to. Not that I'm suggesting you wouldn't be, but stress for no money coming in, can come across as aggressive. And you want the person to progress your claim
Good luck.0 -
Interim payments do not have to be paid at all. They fall under the broad heading of 'Emergency Payments' and a 'need' has to have been established. They are quite similar in a lot of ways to Crisis Loans.0

LOL the need is the JSA needs paying! Odd how these claims suddenly get processed once an MP intervenes!0

The point about an MP is totally irrelevant to your initial post.0 -

You misunderstand my point. You are suggesting that if the OP could not attend to sign on due to finance he would be able to demonstrate good cause due to financial circumstances, I get that. The 'allaying of fears' is what worries me.
A number of people have disagreed with you that financial difficulty would constitute good cause, and I would hate to think that either the OP or anyone in a similar situation might read your opinions and think it were that simple, because it isn't.
The OP is in receipt of CTC, WTC and CB. The fact that he is in receipt of WTC almost six weeks after work ending suggests to me that his partner works enough hours for the couple to get WTC based on her working hours, so they also have her wage (or maternity pay) coming in. They aren't yet receiving HB and CTB from what I can make out but equally aren't paying their rent or council tax. I would suggest that he might have a hard time showing that he could not scrape together £3 bus fare to sign on.0 -

And the MP's complaint goes to the customer services section, then passed to the command HEO, then passed down to the section EO ... quick talk with the section AO about what's gone wrong, the claim gets sorted, passed back to the EO who drafts a cringing reply to the MP, which gets passed to the HEO for QA then passed up to customer services for final approval ... finally the reply gets posted.
Meanwhile some other poor sod doesn't get his claim paid while all that's going on.
Yippee for MP's complaints !
They help speed things up so much :rolleyes:0 -

I did misunderstand your point, my apologies.
However, I was working on the words of the OP in that he possibly couldn't afford the travel costs - hence potential good cause.
Clearly, I don't have a breakdown of income and outgoings, I was being quite generalist and would hope the OP would realise that.0
