Wait a minute... where is there a BIG BIG Site laying empty with nothing to do with it ..
YIP THE MAZE
Wouldn't it be great... A great big modern Incinerator/Recycling plant beside a modern Peace & Reconcilliation Centre!!
To pot with the Peace & Reconciliation Centre, nothing would please me more than seeing a waste incinerator built over the spot where murderers and criminals were locked up.:D We should have thrown them in it.0 -
Have a look at N.Ireland's Arc21 scheme website, its like an advertisement for lenor. Doesn't show you pics of the toxic ash the incinerators leave behind.:rolleyes:0

That's an important point and one that should be put to them. As far as I'm aware Sinn Fein, the SDLP, and the DUP were always against the use of incinerators as they are only a short term solution to the waste problem.
I wouldn't agree that it is a short term solution... It is a society problem and one that will always be there... Man will always produce waste. Doesn't help things that Supermarkets feel they have to do daft things like wrapping Cucumbers in Plastic (I mean, what's all that about) and what is it with some manufacturers wraping a biscuit individually then putting it in a plastic case and then wrapping cardboard around it with advertising... PACKAGING MADNESS ...
And beside's the incinerators are going to be producing electic/heat so they are providing a service too (get rid of rubbish which we will always produce, reduce landfill, reduce coal reliance, produce energy.. isn't it a win-win situation)0 -

But how's that any worse than burrying all our waste in a big hole as they do at present... It still doesn't miraculously disappear after the clay's pushed over it.... it decomposes producing "Toxic" gases and toxic chemicals over 100's of years..
Maybe we should just "BAN PLASTIC" that would sort out a lot of our waste issues as majority of paper products & glass can be recycled in some way or other0 -
make more items from biodegradable plant materials, instead of oil and other synthetic stuff. Send them to landfill and in 50 years you wouldn't even know it was waste.0

The thing that gets me is ignoring an overwhelming citizen majority. Why consult in the first place? Instead they should have had the councillors vote 1st, they say no, then it goes no further. How much did the stillborn consultation cost?
They are obliged to consult but are not bound by the outcome. Anyone remember the consultation on the transfer oif children from primary school? A majority of the public was in favour of retaining academic selection but they were able to ignore it.
There can be problems with just going by numbers where a policy consultation is a free-for-all but if every household has been sent the proposal and invited to respond then I think democracy should win out.0 -
I resisted bringing up the Maze in my last post, but since someone else has -
A) it's not in Belfastisn't there supposed to be a stadium going there?
C) This would leave Windsor free for an incinerator site to annoy south Belfast instead of north Belfast.
Anyone who doesn't want the incinerator in at North Foreshore, or who doesn't want it at all, please state the alternative idea. Landfill is no longer an option...0 -

...
I'll bite:D
A) why Belfast?the stadium has become politically divisive, only in N.Ireland could it happen.
C) not a good idea to built an incinerator just to annoy the people in South Belfast.0 -
well having listened to Sammy on the radio this morning, I recon it will go ahead as proposed....
Mind you I think there are now bigger issue to confront on the waste front... All the crap comming up into the North from the south and being dumped illegally..0 -

Yea, although I heard that they are coming to take it all away again! Although the tippers will probably just get more ingenious.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
