    reboot into NORMAL mode

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Just to get things straight, i can download this in safe mode and then reboot as normal?

I got kinda lost in all the arguing.......... SO yeah...... :D

We don't know what version of Windows this is do we? did nobody think to ask? hmmm

XP was based on windows NT server..... NT server's were set to automatically restart in the case of an error (makes sense).
I'm not sure about Vista, but I can't see MS changing this "feature" on a system that's supposed to be for IT muggles.

So you see, on XP there's an option in the system menu > advanced tab > startup and recovery > settings > automatically restart. Uncheck that and start your system normally, if it's not a PSU fault it will now show you a BSOD instead of restarting!
This will now give you some hope of finding out whats causing the problem.

My money is on either the PSU or the graphics driver's.

Things got a lot worse over the weekend.

The only screen i'm getting now is the screen when you press f8 when you first start the pc. Doesnt matter which option i chose it comes back to this page.

Any ideas anyone about getting (at least) the desktop loaded from this position?

You need to insert an XP CD and use the repair option. You may need to enter the BIOS to change the boot order to CD.

Is this the disk you get with the PC when bought and will this wipe out the things i have already got on the PC?

At the stage your at, it sounds quite likely that you'll lose it all anyway.....
Without removing the drive and accessing the data from another PC, you may well lose it all.
Windows failing to start at all, is indicative of a boot sector problem.

However as mentioned, the install disk should have a "repair" option that won't erase your data, I suggest trying that first.

You may have received an XP disk but they are not always supplied with systems. Doing a Repair Installation should not lose your files/applications. See here for more info.
