    Hi There

There are NO safe registry cleaners especially when most users don't even know what a registry entry is or does nevermind knowing whats safe to remove.

    regards

Stuart. I completely see where your coming from. My point is that ive NEVER know ccleaner to remove anything of importance.
The ONLY reason I even mentioned ccleaner is because youve attacked another poster for mentioning it.

CCleaner doesn't NOT alter any registry entries, unless you run the specific reg cleaner options. Run it as a normal user and it'll just clear out temp files, cache and other items such as logs and old prefs files (some old prefs files can cause apps to hang if they are corrupt). So it's good advice.

I used to test betas of CCleaner long before it hit the public domain, it's a well respected and decent utility.

I'm pretty experienced in the industry too...

    Hi There

You are missing my point. CCleaner does contain a registry cleaning element which inexperienced users my be tempted to try to see if that might fix their system.

If you have a look at some of the best IT / PC support forums such as bleeping computer, tech support forum, geeks to go etc which are moderated by system repair experts you will see that CCleaner's use is both not condoned or supported. Personally I'd rather go with the advice of these people rather someone who has "been in the industry for years" but yet hasn't been aware of this.

Anyway back to the original posters question. The system will not boot and I think its important in the troubleshooting process to determine whether problem is hardware or software related - something CCleaner will not do.

    Regards

    Anyway

However this is the MSE Techie Stuff board where ccleaner is regularly recommended, so your statement that bad advice has been given is just your personal opinion and nothing more.

    Hi There

Its not my opinion but I'm not gonna reply to this anymore as obviously CCleaner is "regularly recommended" here and people cannot or will not see past this.

So you are simply parroting others in this statement then?

Please note telling inexperienced users to run CCleaner any tool that provides Registry cleaners is bad advice. On most tech support forums registry cleaners are a NO NO.

No, not on the say so of others but many years experience using it and other registry cleaners for that matter. You are just scaremongering! If you don't want to use it fine but millions regularly do, with absolutely no problems.
