PC restarts for no reason

Can you start in Safe Mode with Command Prompt ? Might be worth running a chkdsk if you can into a command prompt.

iv go a sony viao pcg-9u1m and when i turn it on this msg appears. error loading operating system and nothing else. i cant even access the setup menu. any ideas??

It's better to start your own thread.

I've been using CCleaner for years and never any probs, so too have 100's on other pc troubleshooting forums. This is the only 'safe reg cleaner and I've tried dozens.

BTW overheating can sometimes cause rebooting for no reason.

I would start by checking the hard disk for errors. You'll need a Windows XP disk to boot from to start the recovery console. Depending on the PC manufacturer, you may have been given a diagnostic disk when it was purchased.

I use ccleaner and have done for many years with no issues, ive seen others eg espresso and alienrik on here recommend cleaner to others

Tried this and all three stages came back clean.

I then tried another system restore and got the following message, one of the files containing the system's registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy. The recovery was successful.

I then logged in as normal and got a message that the system had a serious error and asked if i wanted to send the error report to microsoft. The message related to mHotkey.exe. I checked for the files but i got a healthy report back.

I then carried out a defragmation run and everything went fine with that but once that finished the computer restarted on its own again.

I can (i assume) rule out the fan as the defragmation took a few hours.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated (again)

How do i run ccleaner anybody?

Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)

Run the CLEANER scan
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)
Then goto TOOLS and STARTUP and let us know what ALL the startup items are

How can i download this my pc keeps on cutting out. Would i be able to download in the safe mode?

reboot into NORMAL mode

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')

Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

yes (But I thought you said above that it was on whilst you defragged?)
