Hi Duncansby,
If you're in sync at 4mb but only getting ~1mb when downloading it sounds like it might be worth playing with your MTU settings - there's a guide on the Plusnet website on how to do this here.
I'm not sure what you mean by resyncing - you can do this yourself by turning the router off then on again.
With regard to the master socket you do usually see better sync speeds when plugged in here but I understand the predicament. It might be worth getting a high quality ADSL extension and using that rather than the extension socket - I wouldn't normally recommend a telephone extension but if the wiring is better than the wires to the extension socket you will see some improvements. It's only a suggestion though and may make no difference.
The other option would be to run a power extension to the loft, and then a network cable from the router to the PC (unless you use a wireless network) though I appreciate this is a lot of hassle and will leave wires trailing about the house so is not ideal.
I hope some of those ideas help, if not please post back and I'll see what I can do further.
Cheers,
MattKind regards, Matt Taylor

Hello Matt and welcome.
My daughter is a new MAAF user, I'm a 2 year user. She was previously with Orange on a 2Mb connection. Now on Max from MAAF using the supplied wireless router.
Her line stats indicate a sync of 8.1Mb but her actual download speed is never better than 1.9Mb. She is in contact with tech. support and on their suggested has tried the usual suspects, master test socket plug in, swapped filters for known good units etc. all to no avail.
Any suggestions as tech support seem to be dragging their heels somewhat?0 -
Hi Oldagetraveller,
I can't think of anything off the top of my head other than occasional losses of connection dropping the line profile (usually down to unfiltered phones, but as you say you've checked this). If you PM me a username I can have a look at the account and see what I can do for you?Kind regards, Matt Taylor

A sync speed of 8.1Mb doesn't mean you will surf at 8.1Mb (no one can surf faster than 7Mb) - what does the BT line checker say she should get? You may find its close to 2Mb, unless there is a problem.
If you don't know, check at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php - enter the number, then click on 'BT ADSL' and tell us the ADSL Max maximum speed . . .0 -

Thanks mrJ, yes we know about actual being less than sync. It should however, be more than 1.9Mb?
I've checked the possible speed acheivable previously, at her location, and the result is still the same.
"According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 8Mbps connection via ADSL Max."
I'm wondering if there is still some sort of restriction in place by BT because of the previous Orange 2Mb limit?
The connection is stable and the router is never switched off.
I am getting better than her out in the "sticks" at 4.5Mb sync with speeds of 3.7Mb/s!0 -
Oldagetraveller,
Sounds like we might have an incorrect profile set on our side of things, or the BT line profile is set incorrectly - any chance you could PM me her username so I can check on this for you? If it's set wrong on our side of things it's a 2 minute job to fix, if it's BT it will be slightly longer but can still be done without too much hassle.
Hope that helps,
MattKind regards, Matt Taylor

Matt - the "fix/tweak" at your end did the trick, thanks. Now showing 6.5Mb/s.0

I've been away for about three weeks and come back to a system that seems to spontaneously disconnect from MAAF every 30 - 60 minutes, for no obvious reason.
(It seems to be a bit like being disconnected by MSE because it has taken you more than 10 minutes to compose a reply to a thread).
I'm on a nearly 3 year old Voyager 210 ADSL Router. I have had small problems in the past with BT's physical connection - It is obvious you can see the little green light playing up. This has been related to high winds or driving rain etc. but at the moment all is set fair.
Surfing to 192.168.1.1 will usually tell me I have been connected for days but occasionally it says 10 seconds or similar.
The only way I can reconnect is stop what I'm doing and turn everything off and on again; completely losing my train of thought, not to mention chewing my elbows and swearing at the screen!
Any ideas why the MAAF system does not like me?
Harry.
PS Those of you having poor speeds on a good line might like to check out my experience with "The snip" that Quentin suggested. It is documented somewhere back on this thread, I cut the middle two wires of my telephone extension wiring (they are no longer needed with modern kit and filters). Getting rid of the "noise" they were collecting caused a 33 - 50% increase in my speed.0
