Comet - rubbish after sale service

I avoid Comet completely. 5 years ago I bought a duff television and i took it back for exchange and they refused. They wanted me to return 6 weeks later to collect it when they have repaired it. 30 minutes of argument I left the store with no telly. I bought another from Currys next door and did a refund through my bank, a section 75. Matter closed.
Last year, i gave Comet the benefit of the doubt and put it down to a shirty customer services guy. I decided to give them another chance. I bought a printer copier scanner. It wouldnt print in black. Took it back for exchange and they refused. this was a different Comet store as I have moved so its a company policy and not a shirty sakes rep. I had to wait for comet to return the printer to the manufacturer. I bought another from Currys and it worked perfectly and I needed to print stuff off that couldnt wait the 6 weeks Comet wanted me to go without my printer. 6 weeks on, I returned to the store to collect it, it was the same box but a different unit inside, a "refurbished" unit. I asked for a refund becauuse I bought a new printer and not a refurbshed one. Comet refused. I ended up paying top price for brand new printer and got a Refurbished printer which I no longer needed.
I gave the printer away to cut my losses and put it all down to a bad experience.0 -

Wouldn't that be a fraudulent chargeback claim?I asked for a refund becauuse I bought a new printer and not a refurbshed one.
I never understand this outlook.....you bought a faulty printer. they provided a working printer. Do you think the plastic casing somehow works differently if it's a little bit more box fresh? It sounds as if Comet and Currys actually provided you with your rights.....they didn't go above and beyond like some shops, but in this case, they did what they legally had to, in offering a remedy to the problem.0 -
I notice you don't mention how long it took before the fault happened
Not very good, possibly against the law service:millwall34 wrote: »5 years ago I bought a duff television and i took it back the same day for exchange and they refused. Fine, within the law service:millwall34 wrote: »5 years ago I bought a duff television and i took it back 8 months later for exchange and they refused. And on the refurb thing, the printer was (we assume) not brand new when you took it into be repaired - a refurb would actually be better than you would have had at the same point if the printer had not been faultySquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Why is that a fraudulent chargeback claim?
I bought a brand new printer and got a faulty one, then 6 weeks leaving me with no printer at all, i got a refurb printer.
That is breach of contract.
Ditto the telly, brand new and it was faulty. breach of conract so Section 75 applies.0 -

It was described as a new printer. I didnt even know Comet was in the 2nd hand goods business.0 -

Sorry, missed that bit,
Fault discovered on the day of getting it home and starting to use it.
It worked for about 100 pages, then black failed. several new catridges at my own expense and hours of cleaning cycles later, still not working.
Comet even refused the cost of the printer cartridges used for the cleaning cycles and diagnnostics and numerous premium rate technical support calls, who eventually said take it back to retailer.
Overall, two bad experiences with Comet.0 -
Currys actually provided you with your rights......
I got top service from Currys, bought a wireless router in 05 and they exchanged it in 2007 at a different store wthout a receipt..
Dixons.co.uk online - same parent coompany - is pucker, not a foot wrong, fast delivery and everything works except for a wireless phone in 09, it was replaced brand new next day.
Cant argue with that.0 -

I really doubt you are alone with Comet. After similar experiences with them some years ago I decided 'never again'. Judging from their recent performance, it seems I wasn't alone.
From what you said, it seems you were sold a faulty product. It should have been replaced instantly. You say Comet tried to avoid doing that. That was pretty much my experience, too.
MSE is a strange place. For a supposedly consumer driven forum it seems to attract a number of posters who will defend the most atrocious service. It's hard to work out what motivates them.0 -
Im another that will no longer ever step foot into a Comet store. They have no idea what customer service is. Not surprised their going down the pan.

From the way you wrote your first post, it sounded like you'd had the TV for five years, and they still repaired it, but because it wasn't fast enough, you decided to do a section 75 chargeback when they had already done all they legally needed to do to sort out the problem.millwall34 wrote: »I got top service from Currys, bought a wireless router in 05 and they exchanged it in 2007 at a different store wthout a receipt..
This'll either be a staff member who subsequently got in a lot of trouble for doing it, OR someone who knows the different DOA times on products. Some electricals I sell can go straight back to the manufacturer without a receipt, so the store gets a refund, meaning an exchange is possible (they use the serial number to work out how old it is), whereas others will only give you 28 days before they need to be examined and repaired.and everything works except for a wireless phone in 09, it was replaced brand new next day.
It's the exact same stock...if it's a panasonic TV it's identical to the same tv bought at john lewis, selfridges, harrods....everywhere. No one shop sells more reliable like-for-like products than the other. It's how they deal with the faults that differs.0
