Setanta Sports battles for survival: how to protect your payments

According to this site advice direct debits can be easily cancelled whereas creitd card ongoing payments can only be cancelled by the payee...seems mad to me..law needs sorting on this. Therefore I changed to a direct debit which , if the company fails, I can then cancel instantly. Credit card payments in this case are not a good thing.0

I took the advice of Martin Lewis changed my payment from a visa debit card to a direct debit payment.I negotiated a new deal only a few days ago to reduce my payment from £10.99 a month to £8.50 a month but this was for a twelve month contract.0

Following Martin's email advice I have just phoned Setanta to change my payment from Credit Card to Direct Debit. I was also given 3 months reduction to £3.33 a month. This was not done via 0845 003322 number as I couldn't get a dialling tone.
I know they are likely to go into administration but at least I can cancel the DD unlike the CC.0 -
I think I may be in a bit of bother with this one. I subscribe via Racing UK and they took 155.83 from my credit card last month....0

I cancelled my subscription a couple of weeks ago by phone and was told to email them, which I did. They comfirmed receipt of cancellation. I am now worried that as it is a recurring payment, they may still try to take payments. Alliance and Leicester have said that they will reimburse me if Setanta try to take more payments. Does anyone know if this will actually happen? I hate it when organisations dip their hand in your pocket! After all it is supposed to be my money!!

I had the same problem cancelling Setanta- paid on credit card who refused to cancel it. So I got in touch with Setanta- the way I did it was to email them (and the person who originally set up the satellite system has to do this, not the person who set up Setanta- now this may be the same person, but in my case it wasn't- my ex-husband set up Sky years ago, we divorced 7 years ago and my current husband set up Setanta with his credit card details, late last year and STILL my ex-husband had to write to them!!!)- with your name and address etc.0

I had DD payments on Credit Card, but phoned them last night and was switched to DD from a bank account. After going through the menus, I spoke to someone almost straight away.
For those that are interested, Setanta are still broadcasting (on Digital Satellite) as I type (Wednesday lunchtime), however I note they are no longer accepting new subscriptions, if anyone can read anything into that.
