Are you wireless with Wannadoo using their equipment?
Wireless router/modem nowadays can be got for £40 from the likes of PCW but I know what you mean about your friend paying £100 a year or so ago as mine cost me that amount.

Hi EL no im not yet, its £17-99 with free wireless router, thinking of maybe giving it a go to see how i get on with being wireless as i am really apprehensive about tieing in again until im happy with being wireless as i have heard being wireless is more of a pain than being non-wirelessEdinburghlass wrote:Are you wireless with Wannadoo using their equipment?

Why would you have a wired router
i thought routers where so people could share the connection, this is confusing because a friend aolso said to go wireless it is best to have one comp wired
aaarrrrggghhh  0 -
You are getting a bit techie on my now Helen but this is the sort of thing I have from PCW.
Originally I had the wireless modem plugged into the desktop and used a dongle on the laptop to pick up the signal as my laptop isn't wireless enabled.
Now I have the modem/router thingy beside the phone socket in the middle of the house and use a dongle on both the pc and laptop, works fine.
edited to add this one is a bit cheaper and explains a bit more.0 -
Yes i know what you mean, but still concerned about not having one hard wired
also what happens when you have any problems with your BB and you phone and they say as you are not using our equipment we cant help and advise  Oh crap i think i wioll chuck lappy in river and get a desktop
P.s my lappi is wi-fi (whatever it !!!!!! called)0 -
You then post on the Techie Board and the guys across there will help you out :rotfl:
Is your phone socket etc near the desktop? If so then plug the wireless/router into the desktop which would make it "hard wired" and as your laptop is wireless enabled you could then sell the laptop card thingy on Ebay.

Hi Helen,
I wanted to drop you a quick note based on your statement:
"Hi EL no im not yet, its £17-99 with free wireless router, thinking of maybe giving it a go to see how i get on with being wireless as i am really apprehensive about tieing in again until im happy with being wireless"
If you do go wireless with Wanadoo taking their free wireless router, you need to check to see if it will tie you into another 12 month contract - you may get 'tied' in without realising it. Usually ISPs will not give away 'free' hardware without a guarantee that the customer will stay with them for X amount of time.
As a side note the Wanadoo wireless router is only compatible with their services. You won't be able to use this 'free' wireless router with any other service provider as that functionality has been disabled. If you switched service providers from Wanadoo, you would not be able to use their 'Live Box'.
Kind regards,

I've been with BT Broadband since it became available to me here in Edinburgh. BT'S technical engineers that were originaly sited in Thurso were brilliant and always extremely helpful and saw problems through to the end. Now like every where else you get some really good advice but also a lot of rubbish and there queueing system is hopeless. Still I am 90%happy with BT.
