Anyone with BT for Broadband?

Hi All

I have had such a crap time with help and support with wanadoo i am leaving them (if they ever give me a mac number) thinking of going with BT, anybody tell me if they good? what is their technical support like? or is it an indian call centre? Do they price match with other companies? Sorry for all the questions but not really too happy about another 12 month tie in but just cant take anymore of wanadoo :o

I've been with BT for our broadband for over a year. I can't tell you what their help and support has been like as i've had no problems. I know I could get it cheaper elsewhere but i'm happy to stick with what I know. I only have my line rental and Broadband with BT (i'm with onetel for my calls) and i'm £38 a month. It is pretty expensive. I think we have unlimited downloads and 5 e-mails addresses and the 2.2Mbps speed(whatever that is :) ). There are cheaper packages though.
  • Hello Helen,

As you already have broadband, I would highly recommend requesting from Wanadoo what your usage was for the last few months. This will help you know exactly what kind of product you need.

For example, if you know that you never do more than 3GB in a month, you'll know you don't need an unlimited product and can choose a cheaper option.

Jackie, in your case of paying £38 a month - this makes sense if you're 30GB + of usage. I would highly recommend calling your current provider and asking them for a breakdown of your monthly usage. If your usage is low, between 5GB and 10GB - I would point this out to them and see if they can't offer you a better deal, particularly as it would seem that you're out of contract. If you're paying the same amount for broadband as you were a year ago, you're paying too much.

    Kind regards,

I've been with BT for a couple of years now. Have never had to contact the call centre because I've never had a problem. That said I understand they have recently moved the centre to India and some people have complained about a decline in the standard of service. This is a good message board for further info http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=bt&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0
and http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk is good resource for researching your needs.

I'm sure BT isn't the cheapest option but they do have various priced packages based upon useage. You also need to consider if you have to take telephone from some suppliers and then a consequent inability to get the best call rates using dial arounds.

We have been with BT for 3 years, had a couple of problems and keep telling myself to get another provider but the company pay for part of the bill and the hassle factor is a bit high. NO problem with the Indian call centre but the Irish one was bad when they cut me off without warning and lied about it. There is a thread somewhere from last May/June.

I wouldn't wholeheartedly recommend them but I know they are not the worst providor out there.

    Hi Samara,

Just noticed you're active on ADSL guide too. I've got no experience of madasafish (apart from finding an old freenetname dial-up CD in my room the other day). Just wanted to say this is exactly the kind of customer care non-techie people are looking for when they choose a broadband provider nowadays.

Keep up the good work :)

Its the old story Helen, that people will only tell of their bad experiences rather than bother noting the good.

I could tell you I have been with Tesco bb since its inception, have had no problems, never had to phone the 0900 number and am very happy with them but then people will come in and that more people complain about them than are happy.

I've got no stories to tell about BT.

Girlf's family have been with them since 2002 and never had to ring customer support becuase nothing has every gone wrong. So in a way that's a good thing, but I can't tell you what it's like if you need to ring them.

BT are expensive for what you get though.

I can recommend my broadband people for excellent support - IDNet. I asked a question on ADSLguide and a chap from IDNet phoned me up to answer it!
