Read what you're writing people from about the 50th post onward
This is a thread about trying to make the board work
And all we have is accusations and counter accusations. It had started so well... I rarely say this - but grow up.
If you're thinking "i didnt start it" then you're wrong, you reacted. If you hadn't there wouldn't have been an arguement.
How depressing.

I think that some of the topics posted may be a bit niche and, therefore, attract niche posters.
Niche is good but doesn't sit well in the Mainstream World
I get the feeling that there is still some good stuff posted on this board but, after sifting out all the politics (whether they be 'highbrow' anti Govt. or more 'Dervish' in style) there isn't enough quality content worth dedicating a full board to.
DT isn't bad....it does what it says on the label.
This board would now no longer would comply with Trading Standards descrip rules most of the time.0 -

(I'm not having a go, but if there is a 'Letts Study Guide' style thread on the history of this forum and its posters, then I'd be up for a bit of cramming! I'm a bit behind all the in-jokes and history)
You'll soon catch up - it doesn't take long. It's like starting a new job, you won't always be newbie.
When I first started posting - I had been registered on the site for quite a long time - and used to read various boards. The one I was always drawn back to was this one - though in it's original form. DT was ok it had some interesting discussions. But this hit the right spot for some reason. I think it's because in the main, it covers topics that are relevant to todays economy.
If there is still a board, just keep posting and contributing. There is quite a bit of twaddle - but there is also a wealth of information. You soon get to know whose posts not to bother reading. I'm naming no names.
It can make you laugh (occasionally out loud) and it can make you annoyed, frustrated, and some times even think.0 -

I have some stress to work off at the moment. Am quite happy to blather on and on about retail issues as all the media hype/statistics bla de bla don't really reflect what really goes on down In The Bottom Of The Pond.
Just wanted to promo too ''Animal Sprits'', new economics book ...haven't ordered it yet as it did come over a bit USA.......basically about individuals who work through downturns, survive and create the new upturns (plus other stuff).
I have found the anecdotal posts fascinating (thinking Alan M and the bank taking away his O/D and Thrifybabe whose customer base dwindled to nothing over 12 months and how they coped).
Selfish of me, but in Real Life, one never gets to hear the truth that lurks under the surface...also utterly selfish of me, it has helped me massively....but then, I confess, I only post realative to me me me anyway.
Sorry Martin.:o:o0 -

Its ok Sweets, if it happened, I'd go ''Its a fair cop'' and all.I might not jump, but I'd probably benefit from being pushed.
ETA: I did say my last day would be when I got through a day with posts all properly worded, spelled and no typos. I'm beginning to accept it ain't gonna happen, so ..........0 -

What you need to know about me: I'm nobody and I don't argue, I stay away from controversial threads and never bite back. I am small and quite nervous. I like researching for relevant links in a timely manner, checking some facts and providing verbatim TV programme transcriptions.

I usually don't read many people's names, just the postings, until something is said that makes me notice them (it's you today). I can't remember who said what, when or what about and have no interest in trawling back into "he said, she said, then you said" evidences.
I usually thank mewbie's postings because he makes me laugh.
I have a few favourites and a few people I don't understand. I never get into the heavy stuff because I'd be out of my depth.
I'm more of the "interested but economically dim" type.
Hope that helps!0 -

If this 'heavy stuff' is economic discussions, then I'm with you 100%, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -

If you all get moved into DT, then everyone will be out of their comfort zones and it'll be easier to get into the swing of things."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. Besides which, I recognise the futility of that
Looking at it practically, I think making us invisible to people not logged in was wise, I think its reasonable for Martin to consider the impact of poor bahaviour everywhere on the forum - I hold it is not just here-on both his reputation and the board traffic. I would in his position.0
