    Morning Everyone

Back again, 10 days now to get my act together before a month away:o. If you see me lurking too much, feel free to give me a quick kick in an appropriate place.

    To do:
    Run down fridge/freezer
Empty 'van - replace half empty with new and use up in house
    Clean out 'van and re-load
Decide on holiday clothes, partially UK, partially France (Normandy), probably all seasons to be covered:cool:
Get washing/ironing up to date - 1 load on line, one in washer, and one to go in
Sort out Laptop so all necessary info with me
Go on Landrover Experience Day with friends who have been offered freebie tomorrow:j
Go over the Pennines to get minor niggles fixed on car Wednesday;)
Get over to Sheffield to get no. plate changed over.
Meet Jayward in town on Friday.
Keep making lists so do not forget everything

Welcome tomthumb and all other newbies :hello:
Do you have a Lidl/Aldi/Netto near you? Try them out - I think you may be pleasantly surprised (Keep OH away from Tool offers though:rolleyes:)

    to everyone else.

:grouphug: to those who'd like one.

P-Pen - Agree extremes are not needed though changes were, looks like we have an extreme for Donny Mayor too. Can't be worse than the other *&&^% though.

    Afternoon OS lovelies! hi.gif

Mioliere - wow that is an expensive cabbage! My OH was in France for a few days last week and said how expensive everything seemed now the Euro is virtually equal to the £.
Lesley - I hate to take painkillers but I have been popping them every 4 hrs for three days now. On their own they aren't enough but the clove oil does seem to numb it all for a while though it burns your tongue if it hits it! Hope the confirmation went well - I remember mine - we had to go to Exeter Cathedral which was terribly exciting and then the wafer stuck to the roof of my mouth and I panicked and thought it would never unstick!
tomthumb - Welcome to the thread and no, you don't have to avoid the supermarkets. It's all about being organised and having a shopping list and maybe not taking much more cash than you know you want to spend. I am sure if I had meals planned for the week it would make my shopping list easier too but I am not quite that organised yet. I know better OS'ers will come along and have some great advice for you too!

Ok, still in pain with my tooth and the emergency dentist cannot see me til Weds so I will just have to hope it eases off or at least gives me a respite. Have eaten nothing but porridge and occasionally scrambled eggs. Days like this when I wish I liked soup. Am drinking ok due to straws - even my redbush tea is drunk through a straw at the moment!

Plus the pump in the shower has broken and trying to get someone to take responsibility for it has been time consuming to say the least so I haven't been able to wash my hair since it broke on Thursday. So what with that and the toothache I feel really blurgh.

So I want to get out in the garden if I can today - its bright out there but just incredibly windy, so may not go out due to my tooth hurting. I noticed that some of my garlics that I planted out in november are dying back and having looked online that means I might actually have garlic ready to pull so might send the OH out to try!

I hope the start of the week is treating you well. Warm gentle grouphug.giffor anyone who wants or needs one.

p.s. Still looking for Kingsmill Wallace and Gromit vouchers if anyone finds any!

Just need to plan and prepare some meals without spending a fortune but even when I'm determined not to spend too much in Sainsbury's I suddenly found I've spent 60 quid I can't seem to avoid falling into all the pitfalls when in the supermarket - shall I just avoid them altogether? :j

    Hi tomthumb, and welcome,

I find the best way for me is to avoid them ( I hate shopping anyway :D) so i do mine online, takes me about 1/2 hour once a week, I see whats on offer this week and then do a meal plan from there (this week sainsbugs have legs of lamb on offer) i can get several meals for the three of us off of this, and maybe enough for a curry too. It works for me, and is delivered right to my door :T

Had a busy morning, made 2 banana breads, and some cookies for dd, hoovered top to bottom, mopped floors, scrubbed kitcken and bathroom.

And I have been outside and re oiled all the garden furniture, need to wait for it to dry and then get the covers back on.

Just had houmous and a pitta for lunch, having a coffee, and will then get back on xx

    Afternoon Everyone

We had a fabulous day yesterday and if I say so myself all my kids look fabulous.I've got loads of pics if anyone wants to see one

This morning though has brought me back to earth as the house looked terrible yesterday as I spent all day getting things ready. So been up since 5am setting things to rights and I'm pretty much done

I've got the BM on and theres Steak and Onions in the SC for tea.I'll serve mash and sprouts with it.I've got quite a bit of confirmation cake leftover so they can have that for pud

MSD-Unfortunately being Catholic we have our confirmation and then 3-4weeks later we have our First Communion. All the kids in the sacramental programme are in the same class at school so it really is a community event.I cant believe you can't get an emergency dentist appointment before Weds!! We can have them same day or at the latest next day

n9eav-Well done on getting the boat.I do agree with you about the dire interest rates for savers at the moment

    Afternoon all,

Cool here today, no rain but not exactly sunny skies either...most of my washing is bedlinen so not sure what to do, don't want to have to go chasing it across the fields, so will probably dry inside.

Having spag bol this evening, nice and easy, bought a French stick when I was out so nothing much to do....have to make some bread, as well as gluten free for DD3.

Tried to see new doctor this morning but there is no surgery until 2.30, so will have to go back then, not sure what to do as new guy is nearly as old as the last doc so will probably retire in fairly near future too...difficult decision after 35 years with the same doc, probably don't need another 35 years but you never know!

OH going to sow more bokchoi and hopefully fennel as current lots are not far off ready to use. Need to get some elderflowers too, they are lovely for flavouring a carrageen (seaweed) pudding...they are really only coming out here now, better if picked in sunshine....

Still in process of mucking out the upstairs spare room, bed linen is washed and dry, so at least can make up bed in a hurry if I need to do so, it was painted pink when I slept there 40 years ago before I got married and I think has just had another coat put on every so often since....would like to change it, might try something primrosy...don't know, will be next week before I get to painting there I think.

Kittens are wrecking the place, not happy to stay in kitchen now so we are having to listen to much complaining...damned if I am going to let 2 furballs rule my life.....

Hugs to all in need or want, welcome to newbies, congratulations to all who are celebrating

    Marie

Yes please Lesley, would love to see piccies....

Just a flying visit as I'm up to my eyes with the usual Monday cleaning.
2 loads on the line, kitchen and bathroom deep cleaned, woodwork washed, floors washed and hoovered and plants watered inside and out. Just the girls' room to do now _pale_.

No cooking tonight as in-laws are treating us to a meal.

    Glad yesterday went well Lesley.
Hope the tooth clears up soon MSD.
    Welcome Tomthumb :hello:

Still using DDs old laptop. Neighbours son said he would sort out the anti virus on the old computer so I could still use it - that was over a week ago.

I have trouble thanking people and posting as the lines I type get all jumbled up.

Going to put chicken thighs coated with spices in the slow cooker to have for tea with home made potato salad and some brocolli.

Have just made a few drop scones as a surprise for DD(15).

Does anyone know how to make a home made version of rice crispy squares? DD loves them and I can't get them locally.

Hugs to everybody and see you later.

Hi elona, I just get a large pack of marshmallows (about 250g), throw in about 50g of butter and stir it on a very low heat until it's melted. Then add as many crispies as the mixture will take (about 3 - 4 mugfulls normally). Tip it into a shallow greased tray (I use a silicone form) and leave to set in the fridge. If you use very pink marshmallows it will be very violent colour but still tastes good :) I try not to make them often as I am capable of eating the whole lot in one sitting :) Don't line the tin with greasproof or foil or you will never get it off as I am sure they use the same thing to stick spacecraft together :D cel x

Ravylesley, I think they seem to have changed things in the Catholic church since I was a kid. I never believed in God as a child but my dad was Catholic and made it a hard and fast law that I must attend church until I was 16. In my day we had our Communion first usually around 7 or 8 and then the confirmation in our early teens about 12 or 13 as it was meant to be about us confirming that we still wanted to be Catholic and therefore done at an age where we were supposed to be able to make that decision for ourselves.Though to be honest a lot of us did it cos it was expected or taken as read that we would and I was sad to see nobody had the gumption to say no they didnt want to. Though I couldt say that myself under threat from my father I really wish I could as to my it was insulting people who believed in god for me to be there and in church every Sunday when I did not believe God existed.Seemed majorly disrespectful to me.

I am off now to google to see if things have changed.
