I get these all the time. I just pass them on to the police internet fraud office.0 -
Okay, so this is all due to my gullibility and I don't blame anyone but myself and now I'm preparing myself for the worst.
So this photo shoot studio called Allure calls me, saying I've won an experience as I entered a competition (this I remember, btw, so I wasn't suspicious). After 15 minutes of explaining what it entailed (repeating, of course, that I will not be obliged to buy the photos as I was a competition winner), I was getting pretty overwhelmed. I didn't think the deposit of £45 was strange as I know all studios require it, so I paid. The identical amount was taken from my account and I was also sent a voucher and a receipt of the payment. After paying, it suddenly clicked (slightly too late, I know) that it might be a scam - I went on their Facebook page and they had just signed up, had no "Like"s or anything and while I'm not a huge FB fan, I knew it was slightly suspicious. The same was on their Twitter website. Unfortunately, the woman on the phone had been very helpful and it all seemed to add up. (A very skilled seller). The company operates under two names (Skylite Makeovers and Allurestudios) and there are no reviews online on Allure and very bad ones on Skylite from people in the same position as me. Now, I'm just wondering, what are my rights here? I know I can't legally get the refund back as the scamming company is in the right at the moment, but I'm trying to figure out as to how I'll fight them when I eventually do go there and they begin pestering me for more money. I'm preparing myself for the worst, defiantly refusing to buy any photos and would just like to know what legal rights I actually have and what legal lines I can throw at them when it gets ugly. (And while £45 isn't a huge amount, I am doing this out of principle.)
Any help will be kindly appreciated.
i too have recieved a call of this nature today but it was london city studios and yes i fell for it aswell i said i didnt have my card on me to pay the £39.00 deposit per ticket but i since realised that this could well be a scam and i am so glad that at the time i didnt pay the money as i was planning on taking someone with me which would of meant that i would of paid £78 which to me is alot of money. i really hope you get this sorted and you do have your money back. if you paid by credit card are you still covered or because they sent the tickets and reciept (they said exactly the same to me) i suppose they can argue that saying you have recieved something. hope alot more people read this before paying any money. good luck.:(0 -

Went to google through normal web browser and landed on a page telling me I'd been selected to complete a short survey to win an iPad2, iPhone 4 or a HP Notebook. Did the survey, only asked for my email address so I thought "why not?". Ended up on a planet49 landing page, asking me for my mobile number to answer 10 questions via text to win. Didn't bother at that point, but have since been emailed with the below:
Hello xxxxxx!
Congratulations - You are our possible winner! We are happy to announce that you are one of our lucky selected few to win an Apple iPad 2:
1. Name of someone else
2. My Name
3. Name of someone else
When I click, it lands me on another planet49 web address asking me for my postcode. Didn't enter - not worth it - seems they're scamming people on text messages already, not going to give them my postal address!0 -
I consider myself a pretty "on-the-ball" comper, and know of the spamming sites.
But this caught my attention today.
Received an email yesterday from "Get me a ticket". A draw had ended for an xbox kinect. The winner was "Claire Doherty". I remember laughing because my name is Clare, and my heart skipped a beat! :rotfl:
Anyway, received another email today from them again. This time for a black nintendo wii. The lucky winner was........ "Claire Doherty".
Wow, either she is a very lucky winner, not only to win two big prizes, but one after the other!!! Surely, there is something we can do? Someone we can report them to?Thanks to all posters :A0 -
