  • Not sure if I actually won a competition or it is a scam. I vaguely remember doing a survey online about holidays and had a phone call the other day saying I have won a holiday every year in lots of different locations. Got a letter through about it this morning from GDMR (geo demographic market research) saying all I need to do is send something proving my address and they will "contact me shortly with details of how I can start planning my future holidays". The company address is from Gibraltar. I think it might be a timeshare thing, and am worried because I can't remember what details I gave them (besides address, name, phonenumber.) The man said he would phone me back in a few days. Any advice?
    thanks
  • Anyone heard of Delices & Gourmandices. They have been promissing me prize money for months and I have bought lots of stuff from them to try and claim this but to no avail. Is this a scam please?

Whilst I can't say for certain if you search Google for Delices & Gourmandises there are entries about non receipt of prizes, some of them are from Belgium and France too..

Personally - I'd cut the losses and forget about them. :(
Thanks to those that post the comps!!

  • Hi, I received a phone call the other night from 'Direct Holidays' to advise that Id won a competition for a holiday for 4 to the Mediterranean. Ive entered loads of competitions so cant quite remember what Ive entered or not. There was no hard sell, no asking for card details or to call a freephone number. She had my details, email etc and said that if she couldnt get hold of me by 18th December then I would have lost out. She said all the details would be confirmed to me in writing. However, she did mention Spain, Portugal , free flights & accommodation and an admin fee of £29. Sounds familiar! Having thought about it a bit more I decided to come on here and confirmed that its probably a scam. Im not a sucker by any means but this sounded very genuine. The caller was a Scottish woman who said she was currently in Auchterarder and talking about the bad weather etc. Has anyone else came across this or a company posing as Direct Holidays?? Feel a bit miffed since Ive said to a few people that I may have won lol!

I am a customer of d&g. I always order their cakes and chocolates, I love it. Read the rules to understand how it works to maybe win the big prize. I didn't win, maybe another time.
  • Hi folks, I'm new here and hope ye can help. I found them (free choice Planet49) on the Guardian website and I clicked on the link thinking it was ok. It was only when they asked for my address details that I got suspicious. They have my name and email address and I am quite worries now. Is there anything they can do with that? I feel like such a fool now. I didn't give any more details but I have already had three spam emails from them. Can these people not get closed down?
  • We travelled through Palma airport two weeks ago and we were approached to answer a questionnaire in return for entering a competition. We questioned the person who assured us that it was a government scheme and there would be no costs. Sure enough, we just got a call to say that we had won - and guess what - you need to pay £29.50 admin person (4) and attend a timeshare talk. Fortunately, I had heard about these scams and told my husband to tell them 'NO THANKS'.

We had a similar thing at Bristol ariport a few years ago - I would have ignored the woman but my husband stopped and answered the 'survey', then when we were phoned up a few weeks later and told that we'd won and we had to go to some event (timeshare event I think!), he googled it and found it was a scam and we said we weren't interested.

They weren't happy to take no for an answer, they kept ringing back for weeks and got quite nasty with us - I can't remember the company name though

Seems that this competiion comes into the scams' category.
The competition ended on 17th September and no winner has been announced to my knowledge. Lots of people seem to be asking the same question.
I have asked them three times for the name of the winner and have been ignored. I have even sent them a stamped addressed envelope for the result, as they asked for on their website, and even that has been ignored. It is not too long ago that their £1 million winner and their security printer ended up in the Crown Court for fraud. I wonder what the Dail Mail has to hide. Hopefully that there has only been some sort of hiccup somewhere.
Makes you wonder about these competitions. Family and friends only seem to win .

Were a bit slow in announcing the winners ...

    but not a scam.

Hmmmm, strange. Only two posts to your name, and in both you're praising this company other people have problems with. I think you own this outfit or the very least work for them.

Good for you, for everyone else:

Rubbish products sold through misleading direct mail which is designed to make people to believe they have won something when they have not.

Avoid, if you really must throw your money away then give it to a charity to make good use of it instead of filling the pockets of this scum.
