IMHO They actually taste better than Oakham - and i was really suprised - we have always had a nice juicy chicken each week - or maybe its the way my OH cooks them :) !!!

They are worth every penny!!!!! :T

Their Dovecote Sirlions at £14.99 for 6 are great value too. Yes they are small, but still good value.

The other thing is their meat doesn't shrink. Had a lovely piece of boneless rib of beef on Sunday, about 1.5Kg and it did four of us for three meals.

I must just point out that (unlike some other supermarkets where there can be an additional discount card holder) YOU won't be able to use your DD's staff discount - they are very strict about that!

This is changing in November so any one other family member in the household can have their own card. She'll also be able to claim discount on behalf of anyone in the household. Better still, the discount rate in Waitrose is increasing to 15% (remains 12 and 25% in John Lewis).

What is the difference please between Ocado and Waitrose?

I shop in Waitrose and think it is absolutely great - excellent quality, polite staff, etc.

One difference i don't think anyone has mentioned when talking about products being delivered by the 2 companies:

'Waitrose deliver' products are taken from the individual Waitrose shops, put in the vans and delivered.
'Ocado' take the products from the delivery centre, so products haven't been on the shelves in shops either.

Just to also clarify, Ocado isn't owned by Waitrose, they are PART OWNED by John Lewis Pension fund, not John Lewis themselves.
    Ocado are supplied by Waitrose.
This makes a difference as Ocado people don't get bonuses etc like John lewis employees.

A few people have said that they are switching to Waitrose, better products etc.

However, when I have done a comparison shop on My Supermarket Waitrose can come out about £20 more expensive.

I agree with you. I think they are a bit more expensive. You can still get good quality food in most of the other retailers at a reasonable price.

I use Ocado for deliveries and would say that their service is better than at Tesco. Produce is fresher with Use by dates clearly stated, they offer Tesco price match items and their multibuy policy is better than Tesco's too - if Tesco only have 1 of a multi-buy item, then you are charged full price and don't get a discount, Ocado on the other hand discount each item on a pro rata basis so you still get your item at the lower rate. Give 'em a try. ;)
  • the offers tend to be very good on things like household goods, today I got 2 big fairy liquids for £2, I had 1/3 off my washing powder, 50% off my evian. Waitrose is the only supermarket I actually enjoy going to, the variety is fantastic so takes me ages to do my shop as I want to look at all the weird & wonderful stuff. Flower selection is vast, toiletries make great 'posh' gifts

I love Waitrose for their weird and wonderful selection of soft drinks. They stock brands I never see anywhere else - not saying they are cheap but as I rarely buy alcohol, they are kinda my little treat each time I go to Waitrose. (Today I bought some cherry juice and some raspberry cream soda). They also stock some nice Belgian beers, including the fruit-flavoured ones, which I cannot find in Sainsburys/Tesco's.

Also Waitroses "everyday" shower gel in Cinnamon Cakes variant is to DIE for!

Its the 89p one, and the smell is LUSH, people often admiringly ask me what perfume im wearing when I use this. Its really softening too.

Compare this basic shower gel to say tescos or asdas own cheapie shower gel and there is no comparison, this feels and smells of luxury!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • They also sell stuff that the other supermarkets don't, for example Morecambe Bay potted shrimps - yum!

There are some more suggestions of what's good at Waitrose in this BBC Food thread.

best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
