I have to agree with kazd when I have compared prices on mysupermarket there is usually around £30 difference in price between Tesco and Ocado, sometimes even more, then I discovered that they don't deliver here anyway so it was irrelevant. Also I think you find good and badly behaved people in all supermarkets, the supermarket itself is not really an indication of who will be there, although the time of day you shop might make a huge difference. I remember back when I first shopped in Sainsbury's and thought how nice it was compared to Tesco and Asda, now it's just as full of rude and badly behaved people as any other supermarket. Maybe one day I will give Waitrose a try, but for now I have no idea where to even find one! :D

If you try Waitrose stores someday - you will realise what you are missing in other stores in terms of quality, customer service, staff and lack of badly behaved people.

In all my years as a Waitrose customer i have never seen poor behaviour by customers or staff.

DD1 has an interview with Waitrose for a Saturday job soon - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her, as she doesn't deserve to be treated the way I was as a kid starting a Saturday job at a supermarket. I don't believe that Waitrose will have the same attitude (and admittedly, the staff discount makes me even more enthusiastic)

I must just point out that (unlike some other supermarkets where there can be an additional discount card holder) YOU won't be able to use your DD's staff discount - they are very strict about that!

This is almost like a confessional for those who shop at Waitrose lol! I've shopped there for over 21 years because as others have said I prefer quality over quantity.

Yes, there is a misconception that Waitrose is expensive but I often look in other shops and see that Waitrose is the same price if not less. At a barbeque recently we turned up with Waitrose meat and other people said "Ooh, Waitrose, posh stuff" when it was a 2 for £5 deal like other supermarkets do.

I like not having to queue, except very rarely like at Christmas (they will always open up another till unlike our local Sainsburys where you can regularly be in a queue six people long). I like the way they source their supplies and the way they treat their suppliers and staff. I like the way they buy mainly British meat. I like the wide aisles. I like the friendly staff a lot of whom I have a chat with every week. I hate shopping at the best of times but I have a pleasant shopping experience with Waitrose. I could go on but others have probably said it already.

Waitrose essential chickens are 25% off at the moment, does anybody know if they taste good like the M&S Oakham chickens?

Waitrose shopping Delivery service is FREE, every day, any time of day.! Which is a different serivce to Ocado which some people say they use.

    look up waitrose deliver .com

I mostly shop FOR FOOD at Waitrose too, for all the reasons mentioned.
It is my nearest shop, walking distance, it is small - which I like.
Most of all the quality on fresh fruit & veg and frozen is far superior.

This means there is less stuff thrown away as it lasts well and tastes delicious.
Whereas when I tried to save money in Tesco most of the stuff was rotten and thrown in the bin too quickly and within its sell by date.
Waitrose fresh fruit & veg lasts weeks!!!

We rarely buy ready meals, pies, etc... so I can't comment on those.

Recently I completely I printed out my online Waitrose shopping list and walked around tesco to compare prices (excluding fresh fuit & veg which as I said I just will not buy in Tesco as it is far inferior).
I found price differences were minimal, many prices are the same and actually many products were cheaper in Waitrose.

So it probaby depends a lot on what products you are buying.

As most who read these I also stock up on offers and Waitrose do have excellent offers.

I will tend to shop in TESCO more for non food items and this is where there are big price differences: eg. Tesco own Nappies, some cleaning and personal care/toiletry items if own brands and on special offer.
But again do price check - I have found Waitrose to be cheaper for laundry liquid, DW salt, and other home brand cleaning products at times....

We have a Waitrose just up the road from us and there is no denying the choice and quality.

I used to shop there every week and get my big monthly shop at ASDA, but I was spending a fortune as they have so many nice things in Waitrose. (Was also wasting loads!)

I still buy my sausages, free range whole chickens, free range duck legs (when on BOGOF) and speciality foods from Waitrose, but now get the rest of my shopping from Tesco and Aldi and the local butchers. Waitrose is nice for special things and sometimes the prices can surprise you - they do have good offers.

Asda are advertising their 8 pack of rocket lollies for £1 - but you can buy the same amount in Waitrose for 85p.........

I'm sure it doesn't happen that often, but goes to show they arn't always more expensive.

    I don't like their own-brand low-fat sausages:eek::eek::eek:

But I love everything else, especially the "happy" chicken breasts, the "happy" cooked chicken & the bread;)
