Can anyone give me a good reason why I should switch to Waitrose.

The Gazelle just adores Waitrose, but it seems to be just rezerved for those that live in "The South", if we had it up here in Cheshire, then I doubt I would ever be out of the place0

Whereabouts in Cheshire are you?
There's a Waitrose in Cheadle Hulme, one in Buxton, and Wilmslow too.
Although I try and stay away from the place, as sadly yes, it costs way too much to do your weekly shop there, popping in for convenience stuff is asking for trouble, the tempation to buy all their weird and wonderful items (compared to the big '3' supermarkets) means I go a bit mad...:rotfl:
Although I'm just off to have a look at Ocado now to see what I could get...never done an online food shop in my life!0 -
A good reason to shop at Waitrose isn't able to be seen by price comparison sites - they seem to do a lot of meat cuts that just aren't available from the other supermarkets, that are a LOT cheaper and really really tasty (eg Ox cheek), so you won't get a comparison on them, but if you were to put in a comparison to a similar bit of meat (eg stewing steak) then you'll see it's cheaper and (imho) yummier at Waitrose.
Plus they do boxes of 9 eggs, in their essentials range, which is very handy for us as 6 isn't enough, 12 too many :rotfl: (Don't know if any other supermarkets off 9 now though).
Generally the non-ready meal stuff is better quality imho - the fruit and veg seem to last longer, the meat is less fatty, more tasty so you use less, and have better choice of cuts, and they are the only supermarket I know that still closes every night and therefore have proper reductions as standard (ie 500g of beef mince for 30p!!) instead of the 10p off I see in Sainsbury's.Do not feed the trolls please.0 -
Well, last night I took the plunge and made my first ever internet shop with Ocado. We're having a bit of a house party on Saturday and whilst we've got all the alcy hol from Asda (lots of lovely offers), I'd have had to go of an evening to do the food shop on the way home from work...and I find it stressful most of the time.
With the 15% discount code, the whole lot came in cheaper than any other supermarket, which is nice. Although delivery charge is usually a fiver or so, I just asked for 10.30pm delivery tomorrow nightfor £1.99, and still, the shopping came in less
Let's see what the man in the green van brings me tomorrow night. I hope I'm not disappointed!0 -
I've asked this elsewhere on the forum but haven't received a reply. Do you receive a voucher for a free item every time you shop from Ocado or are they just trying to entice me at the moment?! I'm on a one month trial of 'on demand' which runs out on Monday hence my question.
Thank you.0 -

Thank you.
Reasons I shop at Waitrose
1) They stock local produce like Worcestershire asparagus and apples, Herefordshire rasps and Teme Valley ales.
2) All their meat is British and all their pork and bacon and ham is outdoor reared (I think).
3) Quality is paramount and choice is not limitless -a good thing in my opinion.
4) The aisles are wide and uncluttered.
5) It doesn't smell of drains like my local Tesco.
6) It doesn't smell of unwashed people like my local Sainsburys
7) It is quiet. I've never heard a parent screaming at their kids in Waitrose (except when it's me screaming at my kids).
8) The staff are the most helpful, intelligent and knowledgeable supermarket employees I have ever come across.
I just love my local Waitrose (Droitwich branch) and look forward to going there every week. I do however get most of my meat and nearly all my fruit, veg, milk and eggs from a local butcher and farmshop.0 -
I thought I would check out the price differences on my supemarket. Just did a quick 'shop' on my supermarket using ocado, i looked for the following basics:
milk
bread
bananas
apples
cheddar cheese
ham
eggs
chicken
beef mince
I added waitrose essential products or the closest I could find, and the price results were interesting:
Tesco: £17.02 Asda:£21.12 Sainsburys: £25.27 Ocado: £19.13
So Ocado is not always the most expensive, and the bonus is that I would expect the products to be waitrose quality.
The problem when you do the comparison of trollies is that a lot of the products are different sizes/quality to the ones I originally chose in Ocado so it is really hard to do a realisitc comparison
For example,
I put this in my trolley:
£6.14
(£11.58 / Kg)
Essential Waitrose Boneless Chicken Breasts (4 per pack - Approx 530g)
When switching to Tesco it chose these:
£3.51
(£9.00 / Kg)
Tesco Skin on Chicken Breast Fillets (Approx 390g)
When the equivalent would be more like:
£7.49
(£12.49 / Kg)
Tesco Willow Farm Skinless Chicken Breast Fillets (Approx 600g)
It's worth checking what the price comparison is actually for!Addicted to MSE, I can't resist a bargain0 -

Factories that produce goods for them (say a chicken pie for example) just produce lots of that one item, and give it different packaging for different shops. You could go to one supermarket and pay £3 for your chicken pie, or go to a cheap one and pay £1.20 for it and it'd be exactly the same.0

I do my main shop @ Sainsbury online monthly then visit Waitrose weekly to purchase fruit. there fruit is so fresh. They last ages & the apples are cripsy when Sainsbury's would have gone fury. I love the taste of their extra large oranges.“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson
